Wait the left lane isn't the slow lane out here?

Personally I am not sure what people expect from drivers on the roads in the US, I mean come on how can you expect common courtesy, skilled drivers and such when,

1) 80% of people driving here are either too stupid or far too uncoordinated to drive a manual transmission.
2) Have to use more stop lights in one single town than the whole of Europe has combined for fear that roundabouts would cause to many crashes.

I am having to get my road rage under control these days but in my youth I got in to some road related scuffles.

Generally they stop as soon as I step out of the car.... which in and of itself is stupid.

I've had things thrown at me and guns pulled on me so I'd highly recommend letting the crazies just drive on by. You never know when some one might have a .45 in the door and be pissed off enough to squeeze a couple off.... that person might be 16 years old these days so you never know.

I have some serious issues with the way people drive but I've learned that those people won't learn if you yell at them... they think you're the crazy one that can't drive. Most don't realize they are doing anything wrong when they refuse to get out of the fast lane and are going 55mph or merge in to your lane with no blinkers or even looking at you, etc etc etc.

I had a lady seriously just merge into me without looking the other day. Fortunately I was looking right at her face and had a feeling she was gonna do something stupid or it would have caused a huge wreck as there was a lot of traffic around. Stupid people. She had no clue she did anything wrong and NEVER will.

Unfortunately our drivers tests are far to easy and most people these days aren't raised to drive like many of us native born folks over the age of 30. I say this because of the law changes that have come since we were kids. I started driving my moms car well before I could reach the pedal and started driving on roads long before I got my license. Stuff like that isn't the norm anymore .

haaaaa. you should take a drive down through down town gilroy. There's literally a light on every block and people still don't pay attention.

My CHP friend has successfully cited many folks that are doing the speed limit in the #1/fast lane.
IIRC, the biggest cause of crashes is not speed, but rather the differential of speed between cars involved in the crash.

Wow, that kicks ***. Speed differential is one of the scariest things on the road - when I used to commute on my moto, riding along in the HOV lane just waiting for the jerk who's going to jump in at the last minute. There always was one - just depends on when. Just one reason why brakes are always my first upgrade on a car, and something I never skimp on with repairs.

It really sucks when people are not considerate of others on the road - seriously. If people would just take their heads out of their asses and let the people by, there would be far less problems. A friend of my sister's did this on purpose as well - she would say things like "72 is fast enough for me, it's fast enough for you." and brag about holding people up in the fast lane when she determined that they should not be going that fast. Not only is that ignorant and stupid, but it's dangerous. I try to get the point across with air horns and don't do any hand gestures beyond a thumbs-down.

That being said, people that get so pissed off that they need to follow someone or take all of their attention from driving to the personal issue need to get off the road ASAP.

Speaking as a Brit, I was horrified by the driving test here. Never needed a car back home but needed one here, and the test was basically driving a figure 8 round a couple of blocks in SF. It included me leaving the car in gear and taking my foot off the clutch, jumping it into the intersection and earning a squeal from the chick conducting the test. I passed.

Commuting on a motorcycle brings all this into sharp relief. Driver vs driver counts even less, since almost every conceivable "dumb driver" collision ends up with the car driver walking away and you getting scraped off the road.

I agree on both and remember all the red and green "L" stickers on the roads haha.. My wife learned to drive in Sweden and they taught ice driving as well as handbrake turns.

I feel that commuting on a moto brings a lot of things to light because so much more is at stake. You really learn that the best and safest approach is to put the danger (anyone purposely causing problems first, ignorantly causing problems second) as far away from you as possible.

Ha ha, I too think stupidchicken03 is wrong, Slower Traffic Keep Right Means you eh? Only time that rule does not apply is if you cannot move over or there is not enough room for you to safely merge to the right. I drive a lot from Hayward to San Jose, I use 880 and 680 and even 92 to 101 or 280 as well. I have been going in excess of 80 or so and if I see a car coming up on my 6 I turn my signal on and move over. Simple as that, only time I do not move over is when there is less then 2 car spaces in front or on the side of me so if and when I merge I do not want to be on someones *** tailgating them. My safety is evaluated before merging over, a lot of times people can see that there is traffic and will slow down until you can safely merge, if not then they make a calculated guess to overtake you. But slowing down, and messing with people is not really smart. Besides getting shot, or beaten to death I am worried about being hit from behind and being pitted. Not hard to do, just a little nudge will send you off course and can start a whole mess of things that you and or your loved ones did not want to be involved in. I remember a few years ago a guy stalled his car trying to make a left hand turn at a stop light on a city street, guy behind him honks, stalled guy flips him off, guy honking gets a gun out and shoots the guy dead with more then 10 rounds fired at that stop light. Now was that worth his life? Think about it, best thing to do is either give way by merging or not engage someone into a Road Rage Incident.

Stop signs account for 5% of all auto pollution i wanna say. Stop signs should only be near schools or senior centers.

Stop signs also are useless at T intersections.

4 way stops are stupid too...why not just make 2 ways stop and the other flow through?

Truckee's roundabout is the only legit one ive ever driven on lol but its a start i guess.

SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT

thats all it says, and thats all it means...if someone is going faster behind you, move the F over...it impedes traffic flow, and it doesnt matter how fast you are going...

That is correct. If everyone on the freeway is going 100 and you are the only one going 65, then you will be ticketed (and rightly so) because you are the one impacting the safety of the flow of traffic.
