And this is why I keep a 6 cel (not legal in CA to buy, but you can own them) Mag light in the car next to the seat. Its not a "weapon" by the strict definition of the law, but you hit someone with it, and its going to stop them.

But as pointed out above, there is little to be gained from a fight. Better to just walk away and ignore them, unless they attack you its not worth aggravating the problem.

Haha - yeah I was watching gangland on History channel and the Hells Angels weapon of choice is a ball-peen hammer. Small, light, effective and not illegal As far as concealed weapons - thats a no go here in CA.

It's so weird how the mind of a person works when you just see cars moving and doing stuff instead of the actual person. We concluded that people end up dehumanizing the whole thing and that is why they end up getting mad a lot easier. Most people never consider the other persons situation or their thoughts when things like this happen.

The state of CA says that is a weapon, however if you keep a golf bag of clubs in your trunk its not.

Be careful the law is very clear on things like this. Such as a tire iron tucked next to your seat is considered a concealed weapon, but in your trunk its not. This again is why I carry a large mag light, its heavy, and in no way considered a weapon by law.

You might also want to consider carrying a folder clipped to your pocket - that way you aren't completely defenseless when you're outside of the car too. Just make sure you can draw it quickly from the seated position. Anything in the trunk is way too risky to get to because it requires you to get out of the car and fumble around with your back turned to your assailant - not smart.

People with road rage really suck...

I accidentally cut off this van while merging from 380 to 280 (couldn't see through my blind spot) and he laid the horn on me. I thought to myself, "ok, I deserved that." He starts tailgating me, even though I'm going 70 already. I try pulling away but he's just cutting people off just to follow me. He finally got fed up and passed me. I'm gonna bet that he had his whole family in there, because he had those stickers that have each member of the family and their name on the rear window. Way to put your family in danger.

What about the club that I lock the steering wheel with? Is that considered a weapon? It usually sits on the passenger seat when I'm driving - very easy to reach.

No, that would not be considered a weapon in that form. However if you use it to defend yourself it will be said you were armed so be damn sure you were "in fear of your life".

Remember folks, in CA we have no duty to retreat, you can stand your ground and defend yourself so long as you feel your life is in danger.
