I think putting together albums is what you pay for, also youre paying for the reassurance that you will have pictures with their 4 backup cameras etc. Taking good pics is 1/4 of the deal, just because the couple is walking on the beach doesnt make the guy a pro photographer you know? again this is all my opinion backed with no experience
A good friend of mine got married a while back and they also had a friend do photos but this was a HUGE Chinese wedding in Israel (don't ask). She found some online place where you upload your photos you want, drag them to size, add whatever you want (just like Yearbook class LOL) and then in a short while you get a really nice album sent to you. They showed it to us, and we were really impressed. I will have to ask her again but it was something easy like onlinephotoalbum dot com or some shizz.

I also have another friend who paid some photog around $3k for work and they simply forgot to do all the black & whites they asked for. Ooops.

Just curious. How is a Vietnamese ceremony different from a Chinese ceremony? From what I have observed, Vietnamese celebrates weddings pretty much the same way as Chinese do in a restaurant...

I just want some one(or + a backup shooter) to shoot my wedding in RAW and provide me with all of the images. my lady would prefer a female for the ladies "getting ready" photos so that is kind of a tough one.

I originally thought to do the same thing that Wombat did and suggested. My problem is I don't really have any close friends that are decent photographers.
Kyle will be there though with a camera or two, so I guess he is my friend.

Matt, i'll bring a camera or two and take photos for you, and you can do the same for me.

When/where is it? I can see if my wife wouldn't mind snapping some pics. Failing that we can get a wig and some push-ups for Kyle and I can lend him a lens for the day. I also wouldn't mind snapping some pics too, but I am not such a great photographer (still learnin).

Kyle - I was gonna mention I have an EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 lens you can use or buy for your 20D if you are gonna keep it. Its just chillin in my closet. I can meet ya at the Duke or at your parking lot @ 9/35.

not so much the 'eating' portion. but in the morning I have to go pick up the bride and it's a bit different from Chinese. Chinese you have to 'buy' your way in and just the groom and his friends. Where as Vietnamese, most if not all the family members will go to the bride side with gifts in red containers. Present the gifts and all the jazz... There is also the Chinese tea ceremony where the bride and groom would go to the groom's parents house. Serve them tea and receive gifts and blessings.

so for us, we'll be doing Vietnamese ceremony in the morning, follow by a Christian/church ceremony, then Chinese tea ceremony, break, and then the banquet! Yep, a LONG *** day!

i agree with the point that film photographers are way better then digital photographers...when you have film you have cant make alot of errors, but at same time if you are making a ton of errors as a digital photographer and trying to do a wedding or big event, in my opinion you're not ready for it yet....

yeah i agree with the whole why you gotta pay so much money for a wedding photographer, but had to go with what the fiance wanted so we ended up paying like $7500 for total package for ours...(ammiewang.com)...she does do alil photoshop, but not too much, plus its not 100% photoskills although its a big part, its also the personality of the photographer too...how that person interacts with you and your guests...

maybe he had a bad day, but went to a friend's wedding that had todd rafalovich, and dude what a grump...yelled at the groom's parents and all of us cuz we werent in right position and just a plain dick entire day...

i am just an amateur photographer, no where near the skills of nikon or jz, but always willing to lend a hand with my skills

i have done a handful of wedding videos too and no matter what wow talk about a long day! i know for ours photographer and videographers will be there at like 9am for all the bride getting ready stuff and then going all the way till we end at midnite

oh on another note hahaha, not to hijack thread, aaron aka international_b is my best man so even though i may not know all of you, if he posts here for my bachelor party for whatever, come on out and party it up YEEE YEEE!!!

There's no way you can issue a blanket statement like "film photographers are better than digital photographers." That's silly. Film photographers are often better since there is more at stake with film and it's more expensive, but MANY professional digital photographers started out with film and know their way around a camera - but just prefer digital for the obvious benefits.

This guy: http://volcanoman.com/ is an old friend of my family and one of the best photographers I have met. He has piles of cameras and used film for years, but using digital certainly does not make him a lesser photographer now that he has found a way to use the technology.

Personally, I feel it's a very personal thing - has MUCH more to do with the person behind the camera and their ability to spot images and compose shots than the specifics of the tool they are using. I have seen a couple people with cameras go into the same place to take some shots - one comes out with a memory card FULL of awesome shots and the other says something like "there wasn't anything to shoot." Well, regardless of the format - I will take the person who can make a shot out of any scenery - especially for 4x what I paid for my first car.

I hope he's expensive and you worked PRINTS into your deal.

Just because you shoot film doesn't mean you don't make mistakes.

probably should have clarified, cuz i do know that yes quite a few film photographers have switched over to digital....i think i was just comparing film and digital (people who started out with digital, not coming from film).....my bads.....

wow!!!! there are some really great photographers on I-CLUB!!!! I think you guys SHOULD set up a group...a friend of mine now does car photography and the S2k peeps pay him good money!

i asked my friends to do my photography since they know me and my fiance really well....i love their perspectives thru the lense.... one might have to back out because his dad was just diagnosed with caner and has to go thru chemo i dont want him to miss out on that time with his dad. so i have been toying with the idea of finding someone else to help since 1 man cant do it all.

theres photographers and then theres people who take photos....the people who take photos are photoshop experts and cant take a pic to save their lives...i dont like those people! grrr id rather pay someone who takes great photos and doesnt have to spend all the time at the computer making a picture look decent!
