so why would you buy a car from a company that started out making airplanes?
To MyNikonLens though, thanks for your input on the lenses. I think the biggest and of my pictures would be pinted would be 8x10/8x11, is the difference between the minolta and cannon lenses noticeable at that size?
Does anyone know if best buy or circuit city usually has the xti and alphas on display? Idiot-proofness is not a major concern of mine. I developed my own film before I was in high school (no longer have the room though) and learned to shoot on an Olympus OM-1 (automatic nothing, small +/- light meter)
By the way, I had to get some film last night and no one carries much film anymore! I remember when 7-11 had 100-800 ISO...my only options were 100 and 400

thanks for the input guys. I'm going to stop by a local camera shop whenever my coworker comes in and at least play with the xti, I don't kbowif I'll as their opinion though since I think they only sell the xti, so its no wonder what they'll say
What do people think about the Olympus evolt compared to the xti and alpha?

It is funny you say that. I have never found anyone that knows anything about anything at either Ritz Camera or Wolf Camera. The best camera shops in the bay area are Keeble and Shukat in Palo Alto, and Calumet Photo in San Francisco.
As for Olympus, great camera, limited lens selection and not much 3rd party support. Same things as I told you before. Stick with the Canon and don't drive yourself crazy. Once you touch and feel the camera, immediately go with your gut feeling. Everything else you will learn and get used to.

I think I'll go on Flicker later today and look at pictures taken with both cameras, as well as try to find a store with an alpha on display. I'm still leaning towards the alpha because the lenses will work on my film camera too. Are the colors equally as vivid on the canon and Sony? I guess that's somthing I can judge off flickr too though

I think now I'm leaning towards the xti since seeing as everyone and their mother has one, there should be a large selection of lenses and accessories, as well as software to read the RAW image data (as someone already mentioned). I guess I don't really need the minolta too since I have a 75-300mm zoom lenses for the Olympus, and I can sell my minolta and the macro lens I have for it and buy a macro for the canon. I'm still going to compare color and sharpness on flickr though

dude my 20D has been for sale forever, you can be the lucky one to snag it, read the last post, it is a steal!

I'm selling my Canon 20D body for $480 if anyone wants to buy it.
Recent tune up by Canon with proof of purchase and tune receipts as of Sept. 2007. So its better than new reliability-wise
1GB CF and 2 batteries, original box and all original accessories
tiny hairline scratch on quarter of LCD, hardly visible when on.
8.2mp 5 FPS shooting.

I'd get it Kyle if you had any lenses to go with it, but I'd then be buying 2-3 lenses instead of 1-2. I'm now leaning towards the Sony again because I have the small zoom and a good macro lens for it. I played with both cameras at circuit city and while the Canon does seem to have easier features, I don't think it'd be hard to get used to the settings on the Sony (such as the Sony having the flash setting on the features wheel rather than a button like every other camera) However, the Sony Alpha comes from Minoltas, and Minolta was known for doing everything ***-backwards anyways

I'm in the same boat as you, but atleast you made your decision. I got an XTi for christmas, but I want a Nikon. D40 is beginners and only 6 mp, so if I upgrade to D40x, that's 10.2 mp, but practically the same camera, so might as well go for XTi at that price. And if I go with XTi, I would need expensive canon lens to bring out the image quality to be superb, then why not go with a D80 or D200? It just doesn't end, I heard there is a new Canon coming out, 450D, suppose to replace the current XTi next month! Sounds amazing from what people say it should be.

Megapixels don't matter unless you are looking to print posters, so don't get sucked into that one.
The canon sensor is better than most of the Nikons except the D200 and above, so outside shots will be dope. Nikons have better flash photography no matter which camera you use. (which is why I own a D40 with a speedlite)
But if you are just looking for a more complete SLR on the cheap, and do point and shoot, go with the sony.
