A cop was behind me for over 2 miles and didn't seemed to care. I guess having a wagon does pay off.

I drive a sedan, My car is so loud three inch all the way through with 4 inch muffler melon shooter. I have been pulled over three times. The first was an uncorrectable violation and I payed 114 dollars after I went to the police station to get it signed off and changed my muffler. I put a resonator in, my old muffler did not accept a resonator. Now I do not run the resonator but keep it in my trunk. If a cop pulls me over I go ahead and put it in. Then the cop is happy. Havent had a ticket since.

A question to ask is how old are the people that are getting pulled over?

Cops look at age some times and just assume young guy means street racer.

Man, hearing about all of this, if a cop pulled that bs on me I would own him so hard. First of all, where are your certifications to make these claims officer? Wow...i would probably act much more mellow then I say I would, but still, come on. Saying he saw your turbo timer in the fast and the furious, and that its a race computer? wtf.

I"m running a scoobysport axleback with no issues. I even had a cop pull me over for something else and had me rev my engine to 4500 rpm while he listened to it, and told me it was fine, then again i still have all my stock cats.

dude exactly! i have a fat angled exhaust and get hassled here n there. so now i am just gonna get the borlahush and look stock. not gonna look as exotic (not that i care) but atleast i will hold onto a good sound and not be too loud.

I think there's a thread about police pulling over modified cars on every car board in California...

A lot of people have had good luck with the Apexi NOIR exhaust system. It's stainless steel painted black and it's quiet. They've even had exhaust tickets signed off by police with the exhaust.

Is a different catback even illegal? Whats the problem if it doesnt effect emissions and it complies with noise regulations?

I think any modification of stock exhaust is illegal. Not sure though.

I was pulled over yesterday by CHP but not for exhaust. He told me I had a nice modified car and didn't mention anything about my exhaust or anything.

Sorry, but legally, cops DO need a warrant to search anything locked (the locked term is key here) in your car... glove compartment, trunk, etc. It's the law. Doesn't matter if something moves or not.

Anything out in the open in your car cops can search, or can call you on anything they see, like an exhaust (that's why a stealth set-up on a car is best, hard to detect via visual inspection).

does your wagon have a lot of visual mods? Also what color?

I've got a lot of stuff done to my wagon, but it's always dirty.

Sure there are things that make it seem like a racer: loud exhaust, backfire, morrett lights, tint, STI scoop, Asian driver, lowered, vanity plate

But there are things that conflict that image as well: wagon, thule rack, always dirty

Maybe lots of dirt + wagon + Thule roof rack = OK
