Pulled over for Exhaust..

BLah!got pulled over by CHP again... at the stoplight he just pulled up and told me to drive up to a gas station and stop. I was thinking to myself "wtf for?" anyway I pull over he walks up and says "you modify your exhaust?, that’s not legal! You made it louder, also come out and pop your hood" He poked around and ask me where’s my CARB number for my intake (pointing at my turboxs tmic intercooler) I let him know that was a intercooler and my car is turbocharged and comes stock with an intercooler and showed my stock airbox and pulled out the filter for him, he grins and tells me that doesnt look OEM. I told him I didnt want to void my warranty (gruppe-s heatshield worked again! Covered my dp) and he walks back to his bike and hands me a ticket…

cvc 27151(a) Exhaust violation and checks yes for correctable violation

after my research for 30 mins online, I find out that the law has changed and now I have to take it to a state ref. blah what a waste of time and money, I guess he was bored and wanted to give me a ticket. Anyway has anyone gotten this ticket and got it signed off recently or fought it in court or mail? Any comments or tips/tricks would be helpful.

oh yeah I have an hks carbon-ti w/ dp but I was at idle when he told me to stop.

That's a big part of your problem. If you don't want to be hassled, don't buy one of the loudest exhausts available for your car. Not trying to be a dick, but just stating the truth. I had Prodrive which was actually pretty loud with the catless turboback and got sick of the droning and hassles from cops. Switched to STi and problem solved.

that sucks... Seems like they're really cracking down on anything modified that's obvious. I really need to get the bolts for my stock heat shield.... does anyone know the length/pitch of them?

I'm glad my exhaust is pretty quiet...

especially after the incident last week with the girl racing on the 101 and killing the prince of tonga, his wife and driver.

my co-worker's son is a cop and that incident is a big deal.

Yeah, but the carbon-Ti is pretty much the loudest and flashy exhaust one can buy

I didnt have a single problem with my stromung completely catless. I will be going even more stealth with the evo.

I picked up some "iron" colored engine paint

Gonna paint the DP and TP "iron". The TP has a resonator on it so it looks like a cat, will add some factory heat shields over it.

For the CBE, im using a magnaflow 5x8 oval muffler, painting it flat black. It comes with a 4" tip or just the bar muffler. I may just get the bare muffler and have a shop weld on some 3" pipe as a tip. No polish on the tip of course

I'm going to add an additional 16" long resonator on the b-pipe as well

Hopefully it still flows good and is quiet and super stock looking. I want power without any additional attention

Loud, very loud or quiet, EVERYONE will get pulled over. If you exhaust is not stock, you WILL get pulled over. Not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN.
