Lidar is such a narrow beam, it's dead on accurate compared to radar, which is why any radar detector is basically useless against it.

If your radar detector picks up Lidar, it's already too late, they targeted your car and have already gotten you. However, most lidar readings I get on my V1 are false readings Inifiniti cars give off. In the 8 years I've had my V1, only 3 times have I seen a cop gunning and V1 confirming it's lidar. The other 9 bajillion times it's gone off, I see an Infiniti FX35 driving by.

And to anyone recommending a laser jammer, PLEASE include they are illegal in the state of CA.

to the OP..Suit it. let them know you are guilty, let them know that you are currently tight on budget because either your a student our currently have some financial issues of some sort and hopefully (usually) they'll grant you community service.. then you just take care of the 20 hours or however much the judge gives you.

Laser jammers are the way to go and yea...they are illegal, but to fork out 900 + to mod up your car just speed isn't practical unless you just have the money and therefore speed tickets aren't an issue. Liders catch your V1 or V whatever the heck it is .. you can spend hundreds of dollars on a radar detector and the CHP only needs a second to see how fast you are going, by that time he'll either radio other up a head or just catch you on his/her own. Subaru's aren't hard to spot lol..

+1000 for the Valentine 1, I've had it for about two years now and absolutely love it. Used to commute from SD to the Bay last year and it saved me countless times. I don't speed much but it's still a nice feature to have driving on the freeways. I have noticed the amount of CHP using Lider increase in the last few months though as twice it hasn't gone off when the cop had a speed trap set, still a very small proportion of the CHP have lidar. IMO worth the $400

Yeah I got a ton of tickets when I first got back from Iraq. Now I drive like a grandpa and keep all my speeding for da track, but Im also an old man. LOL

Good rule of thumb + 9 MPH over speed limit ok. + 10 + not ok.

Edit for post below. On the freeway only. On city streets I.E. 25 MPH 35 MPH zones this is a no go.

Always adding 9 can get you in trouble, 34 in a 25, 44 in a 35 is definitely not a safe bet. I think a better rule of thumb is + the first digit in the speed limit, other than not speeding, that is.

For example, in a 45, 49 is okay or 71 in a 65.

There have been court rulings (in other states, though) that show a radar gun can be ~10% off even after being calibrated, so taking the first number is basically 10%.

it's 3 to 6 feet wide depending on distance. it can hit the car at your 12 or 2 o clock and you can still pick it up.

the best thing to do is immediately change lanes (safely and signal of course).

v1 is still useful for ka band. lidar doesn't even matter, you're going to get screwed either way.

with a radar detector, it's only an aid. if you speed consistently, it's not a guaranteed protection.

If you end up getting a ticket anyways, i would suggest Fight Traffic Tickets / Contest Traffic Tickets with the Ticket Assassin: Your Guide to Fighting California Traffic Tickets & Contesting Traffic Citations in California

the v1 and Escort(forgot the model #) are probably the best two from what ive heard, will definitely save your *** if you speed alot, have gps/hotspots for traps

i have a beltronics i got for around $200 and it works great/picks up lidar too but you're ****ed either way when it picks that up like many have said

honestly just buy any decent brand one, v1 is great but not 100 % necessary, imho alot of it is being able to interpret your radars reactions as well, none of them will save you 100% of the time

Radar detectors aren't capable of preventing you from being caught breaking the law. They are SOMEWHAT capable of notifying you of the presence of radio waves commonly used by police to measure speed. I say somewhat because in dense urban areas there are a million other devices that use similar radio frequencies which will make your detector go off like automatic door motion sensors and other such things. Meaning now you don't know if it's beeping because of police presence or just some stray radio waves.

I know where cops usually sit on the freeways around my commute. This device combined with that knowledge and good situational awareness CAN let me know up to around a mile ahead of time if I happen to pick up stray radio waves from police scanning cars ahead. That's pretty much the best case scenario though.
