Police Scanners...

O.k... situation.

We've had shots fired at/around our house weekly and sometimes daily for over a year. Talking assault riffles with clips over 10 and a single fire rifle that's ****ing huge!

One time they were about 60 feet from the front door and I followed them to their house (my ****ing neighbors). Didn't know at the time.

So... I'm leaving the house tonight and I see them outside. I almost drove up on them because their huge *** dog was at my house again... it tries to get in my chicken coupe. But I didn't want to deal with it at night. They looked right at me when I rolled by.

10 minutes later my wife calls me freaked out cause they're firing off auto rounds close to the house.

I told her to call it in. I'm about 15 away. I just talked to CHP... they knew about it. Wife just called and said when she called they patcher her to the chp on duty... the responding unit most likely.

She just called me again and told me that the lights next door went dark. This happens EVERYTIME>>>>> I'm thinking they have a scanner. My question is... could they hear my wife? We're the only white people on the street... not hard to figure out who called if they can hear?

I need to figure this out. I'm talking to the landlord tomorrow. He rents out the houses next to us as well. THen I'm talking to sheriff and chp. The dude I just talked to (CHP) said they're out there all the time because of accidents and he said he'd be down to do a drive bye every time he's in the hood.

In short... I need to figure out how quickly we're moving out or I'm showing up on their door step and letting them know what's what.

Are you saying the neighbors hear your wife's phone call with dispatch?

Unless their hearing it in person they would have to be tapped into your phone lines to hear that, on the other hand they will everything dispatch says when transmitted via UHF which a scanner would pick up.

Tell the sheriff/chp officer to post up nearby or in the start of your driveway for a while and see if they hear shots too?

CHP is Low Band Hide...

Ray, they will not hear your wife, or her name. She will be reffered to as "THE RP" when dispatch is referring to her.

You really need to get out of there. Or at least see if the landlord can kick those people out of that house.

Sometimes they say RP sometimes they give names phone numbers and addresses over the air. You can request that they keep it off air. For personal safety reasons. Tell them you think they have a scanner. They can send it to the in car MDT and not over the air.
Crime with the use of a scanner is a big no no.
Next question is where are all the shells from the rounds being fired? Any police officer would be able to find these on the ground still warm and be able to make a judgement call on public safety.
Next get a video camera. Record it out your front window. When CHP or who ever shows up. Meet one of the units around the corner from your home and show them the video. That should be more then enough for a door kick and a extended vacation for your neighbors.

The last thing you want to do is go knock on their door.

What city do you live in?

Just move. They have guns and you have a wife and kid and retaliation is a *****.

i would say more than likely they do have a police scanner. and i dont think they heard you wife's call but i'm guessing they heard the call go out over the scanner that shot were fired in their neighborhood/house. i suggest going to your local arms dealer and getting your hand gun license and getting a nice little ar-15 or the ca legal saiga semi auto shotgun. no better reason to arm up than some retarded hillybilly/biker/gangster/dealer/wanna-be neighbor who has already shown they own guns and are stupid enough to fire them off in a residential area.

From what I've heard about them, I'd be wary about arming up against them. They aren't the type to back down just because their neighbor is packing. Luckily I know that Ray is smarter than that too.

Reporting Parties (RP's as mentioned above) are never live on the radio ever. CHP uses MDTs (Mobile Data Terminals) as stated above and they would usually give the information over that with a verbal radio confirmation. If they did say anything on the radio, they would simply state something along the lines of "reported shots fired, possible automatic weapon" and give the address that your wife gave. Dispatch wont say the RP's name or phone number unless specifically asked by and officer, and usually CHP (at least in my neck of the woods) is smart enough to do that via landline.

Have you tried to go talk to these guys about the weapon fire? Maybe ask them if they'd chill out because it freaks out your wife and kid.

If I were you, I'd get an IR camera setup for 24 hour taping with audio to catch them in the act, retaliation is definitely a real possibility so being cautious is important.

I don't think anyone suggested that he initiate contact with them. However, it would be good to have a long gun at the ready, in the event they come over with hostile intent and put him and his family in danger.
