IMO you did nothing wrong as a driver, and you passed other drivers at a safe speed (not something like 100mph).. But yes, people are idiotic and get pissed for the wrong reasons..
However, earbuds were the only wrong in this story.

Sounds fine to me as long as you weren't reckless. People just don't understand how driving works anymore.
And only one earbud no matter what. ;-)

The earbuds while driving are the problem. They limit your ability to hear, and worse, they focus some of your concentration away from what you should be doing, driving. Its a proven fact that driving with earbuds in, is almost as bad as drunk driving (it does the same things to our brain as talking on a phone while driving)
So yes, that's what I point out as the bad thing, everything else was no big ****ing deal.

All that other stuff is minor infractions that don't affect anyone else around you other than some tree hugging hippie pile of **** that gets offended because your hurting mother earth.

On a serious note... you have a link to that study. I'd like to read it.
I'm curious why it's any different than driving listening to music in general. I don't have a working stereo in my car and from time to time I'll throw my headphones... and by headphones I mean a pair of dre beats on my head. And I mean rarely. Like when I drove to LA.
I didn't feel any more distracted than I would just listening to music and in fact I was MORE alert because I wasn't bored and falling asleep.
I used to have an insane stereo in my car... talking make your heart flutter and eyes go blurry if I really wanted it to kind of stereo. How is that any different?
I'm not saying that it's not a good idea to have one on and one out (my brother just got a ticket for 2 in).... I'm just curious.
I get it though. When I'm snowboarding I can't stand when people have head phones or both ears with buds in. It has caused serious problems for me on the mountain.
Hence why I want to read the study.
I personally feel like if you can not drive and talk to someone in the seat next to you or on the phone with you... you should not be driving. Hell.. I can drive on the phone, listening to music and playing candy crush and eating chicken nuggets all at the same time. LOL! Of course I also have A.D.D. and tend to fall asleep if I drive with nothing else to do... unless I'm smashing and focused of brake points and turn in.
That why I believe this country should split the lanes. You want to drive in certain lanes you need to take more advanced training. Our tests are WAY to easy and the whole 1 and done thing is stupid. Should be retested ever so often. Also... want to drive a car with X amount of horse power... take an advanced driving program.
It would help the insurance companies, lower accident rates and create more aware drivers. You suck... you stay in your lane and I'll stay in mine. Less road rage. Less accidents where people are passing on the right... etc.
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

Read a study last month in R&T that said that how hard the test is or how much driver training makes no difference in the quality of drivers. Germany has a slightly higher teen driver death rate than the US and their tests are a LOT harder than here.

Experience is still experience. Teens are still teens and speeds are much greater there. They gave a much higher fatality rate in general.
