you have to be an EMT first with 1-2k hours on the truck before doing paramed which is 2 years. get your hours in to see how you like it first. see if you can volunteer at a local hospital to get a feel for it. most people think they're cut out for something and then hate it.
most community colleges will give you financial aid. regardless, it's cheap.

Depends on where you work and if you are on the 911 system or not. Locally here in San Mateo county, usually 24 hour shifts? We have bunks at our local station for AMR units.
