Reckon a remote filter setup would help? I actually don't know if this is a problem on my 04 WRX, but then again I'm not really looking. With changes, there is always I guess a bit less oil than I put in, per eyeballing it.

 

My 2013 runs the **** water 0w20.

I go through about a 1.5 - 2 quarts in 7500 miles. So it's not terrible but definetly burns oil.

 

After I switched over to rotella, I get very little oil usage, and minimal blowby. Was cleaning the intercooler last week and barely a teaspoon of oil came out.

I put in rotella T6 and use subaru blue oil filters 15208AA12A

the owners manual says "If the oil consumption rate seems abnormally high after the break-in period, for example more than 1 quart per 1,200 miles (1 liter per 2,000 kilo-meters), contact your SUBARU dealer."

I have the new perrin air oil separator, but I still get a bit of blowby in the TMIC, tmic hoses, bpv, recirc hose. gonna pull the TMIC and hoses off tomorrow to see how much buildup is in there.

it's hard for me to calculate how much oil is getting used due to road tunes and other things. but i check it every couple weeks, and also before/after a long road trip (500+ miles). typically when the stick is showing 1/2 between L and F i add in almost half a quart. i know i add in that much at least every 1,000 miles.

it would be impossible for me to go 3,000 or even 7,500 without adding a couple quarts. i've had the car for 2 years now, did all my major turbo/engine/power upgrades 7 months ago, and have been doing full oil changes every 3,000 miles since i push my car pretty hard at times.

 

For reference, I do AmsOil 5w-30 and a blue Subaru oil filter every 3,000 (about to up it to 4,000 because of a Blackstone Labs recommendation/analysis).

I go through about 1/2 quart every change. That's it. And I drive my car pretty hard.

 

My wife's 14 Forester 2.5 NA doesn't have oil consumption issues. I change oil every 5k miles using Pennzoil 0w-20 with Subaru blue filter. So far, oil level stays the same at the full mark just before i replace it.

I've been religiously checking oil every fill up and also warned family members to check oil level regularly on their 14/15 Foresters.

 

Have you tried a different oil? I ran T6 for a while in the WRX and didn't like it, but the 40W should have been better for a higher mileage motor. I know when I used Mobil 1, the WRX would eat it quick. Switched to Subaru synthetic 5W30 and the consumption dropped considerably. Currently running Torco 10W40 w/blue filters.

 

I'm going to switch to normal subaru synth on the next change when I do a full drain to install a killer B oil pickup soon

 

My car loves rotella t6 and subaru blue filters. 5k mile oci's burns about .5 quarts maaaaaaayybe a quart if i let it go.

 

Traded mine in when we got the truck. Don't miss that FB engine at all.

Did you trade it in at a loss at all? Watch for the mailer or email to arrive.

 

I should note that while I wasn't a fan of the T6 due to the heavier weight, the WRX didn't burn it up.

 

Broke even.

Subaru of Santa Cruz offered me $14.5 for it but the car was gonna run $26k. Putnam gave me $12k for it and sold me the car for $23k. We owed just under 12. Had a good experience with Putnam. I would have gone with Santa Cruz but the car they were selling me was in fresno and I was going to have to pay $500 for them to go get it and they were going to loose their best car in trade. And my phone was missing so I was trying to go back and forth with emails with their online sales guy... his freakin email wasn't working and the other online guy isn't the online guy anymore. It frustrated me so I went putnam. LOL!

Ended up getting a super long payoff loan to keep payments down and a 100k warranty. Sucks because we're buried in it but you do what you have to do. We'll catch up on it eventually. I hate being buried in cars. First time in my life it's happened. I've ALWAYS been ahead.... like I could sell the car at any point and more than pay it off. Not with this one. We're buried by quite a bit.





Side note... any chance you know how I can get the remainder of my 120k warranty back from Capitol Subaru? I'm starting to get pissed. I've called several times and sent an email to them asking for help. NOTHING. It's been a couple months now.

 

I had the same issue when I sold my '03. I ended up having to go to SOA in Cherry Hill, NJ, and after a few months I got paid. The dealer will string you along for a long time and ultimately tell you that you have to handle it yourself with SOA because they cannot help you. This was a few years ago, so it might be different.

 

Well hopefully someone at Capitol can at least give me a phone number to call. I don't know who held the warranty. They use different people all the time.

I'm using my inside man to help me get some information. LOL!

Hmm that's true about different writers for the warranty. I assumed you got it new, and then I am sure it would be SOA. Oh man, job? That sucks - sorry to hear that. I hope you find something soon.

Good to have an advocate at the dealer for you. Otherwise you may have to go hang out until you get an answer from someone.
