99' Rs burning oil!!!
Ok here's the story in a nutshell. About 5 months ago I realized my car was burning about 1 qt of oil every 1k miles. I took it to my local dealer and they said that they ran a test on my car and burned oil comes out my exhaust and I'm not leaking anywhere. However they said that there was a little oil in my throttle body (which it snowed a couple days before and I heard hard driving can cause that). He said keep and eye on it and let us know.
I took it in monday to have a check engine light checked out and the light came up as fuel trim??? What does that mean, I have a weapon r intake and a blitz nur spec exhaust. He said that that was caused by the intake and exhaust wich is weird cause in the 2 years of me having my car with an intake and exhaust that has never happened. They were also checking the oil which was up to 1.5 quarts every 1000 miles and he said that I had the tube hooked up wrong for my intake and it was sucking too much air and causing oil to get in my throttle body. I am at about 56k miles on my car and my warrenty is almost out!!! What should I do??? I'm gonna try putting in regular oil instead of synthetic and I'm gonna put breather filters on to see if that does anything but I doubt it. Also does anyone have a 99' with an intake that could post pictures? I wanna make sure my is hooked up. I'm not stupid when it comes to cars and I'm almost positive mine is hooked up right but just to double check. What should I do about my dealer not fixing my car so it dosn't burn oil anymore too. All information is appriciated. Thanks -Dan

Where could I get one and does anyone have insructions to install?? I just tried to look on scoobymods but the website isn't responding. Now do you think this will just take care of the oil in throttle body problem or do you think this could stop my oil from dissapearing?

I hate my life!!! Well I put on the breathers (anyone know if I can put 3 of them on and have no hoses to the intake?) and everything seemed fine. There was nothing comming out of the filters or anyhthing. Checked it and it was down about a half a quart. I don't know what to do.

have you checked your antifreeze. maybe you have a busted head gasket. Also, there is teh possibility your dropping oil while driving. go and clean up the area's where you think its leaking, and get some white chalk and mark it, and see if its leaving from that spot. just a idea. It has to be goign somehwere. Also, you could just be passing your rings. Have them do a drip down test. that'll tell you for sure.

It's not leaking from anywhere it is going out of the exhaust but it's not blowing anykind of smoke. Right now I am writing to SOA, maybe that will get me somewhere. I don't know, I'm not a happy person now. I just want my car not to burn mad oil. The last time I took it the guy told me that the hoses must be hooked up wrong and the intake is sucking too much air into the motor. He said there was a lot of oil build up in the throttle body but when I checked it there really wasn't that much, it just looked like it was dirty. The reason it was in the shop in the first place was the check engine light came on for fuel trim what ever that means. He said that my exhaust and intake caused that. I told him that I think my rings might be messed up causing a lot of blow buy or maybe my seals weren't sealing verry well. I use synthetic oil. He said that he's been with Subaru for 14 years and has never heard anything like that from a 2.5 Rs. Any help will be great.

trust me. Have them do a drip down test. my cylender 4 was low compression, and that test confermed it. if your cars easting mroe than a quart every 800, subaru should give you a new short block. You have to find a dealer to work with you.
Now one thing. since you have mods, they might be a little hesitant to work with you. I dont have any, so it was a breeze. Remember those engines were only designed with 165 HP in mind. Not to lecture you, but right there is the reason I dont modify my engine.
BTW, my dealer said the same thing, that oil loss in the RS is rare, extremly. I'm sure thats true, cause there are too many people with 100k plus.

Well I just got done the letter so SOA, hopefully they can get something done for me. Is a drip down test the same as a compression test? I know they are being hessitant about the mods but it's an intake and exhaust, they don't add huge numbers and I know that there would be no reason this should be happening just from them. That's why I'm getting mad. I'm not some rich dude who dosn't care about money, I pay for everything and I love my car to death (even more then my girlfriend..shhh...
) it's just I guess bad stuff hapens to me all the time and I can't help but get mad that I can't do anything.

a drip down is basically 2 compression tests. The first one is a stock compression test, and then they spray oil into the cylander and retake the compression test. it can be a good indicator of blowby. BTW, i had trouble with one dealer, called SOA and then went to another dealer, telling them that I just called SOA. I never had a problem after that. So try that. Get tough. They do respond.

Hi first thing you should do about this problem is reinstall your stock intake set up and test drive your car for a few hundred miles. If the problem persists then you have verified that the problem is internal with the motor. The dealer should then do a LEAK DOWN test not a normal compression test. A compression test will NOT show oil ring failures, only compression ring, head gasket, valve failures. Your engine should have less then 5% leak down. Any more then that and they need to replace your shortblock.
these are the test I perform, if you brought the car in for service and I was handed the vehicle to repair. I would do the leak down first of course, then if the engine pasted that test then I would have you remove the intake kit.
Because if the hoses are of different diameters and such they could cause exactly what the Techinician at Subaru told you.

Thank you for the info it's greatly appriciated. Yesterday I checked the throttle body and there was a lot of oil in it. I have the 2 breather filters on the sides and one tube connecting to the intake from the split part where the pcv valve is. There is absolutly not oil residue in that tube and no other tubes connected so I think it's obvious that there is something internal. Last night me and my friends went to the city and on the way down we would mess around a little bit. They told me sometimes (more then not) when I get into higher rpm's that my exhaust would shoot out a lot of crap, but only when I'm on it. I'm gonna schedual an appointment for next monday. They better fix my car.
