Nov 5th - send a message to the banks
Dereg was part of the problem. Clinton pulled the saftey valves out of the system at the same time he put new regulation in place and that caused parts of what happened.
However, I note you keep avoiding the fact that people, the ones taking out the loans were just as cupable as the banks/goverment.

It wasn't the people's fault that got the loans, they were lied to by the financial institutions that were told to give people loans by .warshington.
Look back at my posts, you may have overlooked I DID reply

I've used CU's exclusively for 20 years - closest thing to a major bank I've got is a CC that got bought by BofA a few years back that I haven't bothered closing. Levels of service are so much better, too.
Not tryin to be a lazy ***, but I typed in bay area credit unions and each one has their own unique name and crap... Anyone suggest good popular credit unions so I can at least narrow down my searches for a good CU?

I have Uncle CU.. They have a branch in Livermore, Pleasanton, and Tracy so its a little tough if you don't live in one of those cities. They do however have on-line banking, and their loan rates are damn good! They gave me a car loan of 10k with ZERO previous credit history, and no cosigner.. I'm happy with em
plays well with others

Really....
Ok lets see, who is responcible for all the bad loans...the banks? no...the people who applyed for the loans in the first place KNOWING they could not afford it.
Lets continue with this. Whos fault is it, when the credit limit is pushed and CC's are maxed out...the bank? NO...again people.
Placing the blaim on the banks is like saying guns kill people all by themselves. Yes teh banks have some culpablity in this, but the bigger problem are the idiots now standing up and demanding this and that.

But on the flip side, the banks were essentially lending their customer's money to people they knew would not be able to re-pay the debt. So what happened to their responsibility to protect our money?

Completely agree there. It's the people's own damn fault for taking on more credit than they can handle.
