We can thank the big commercial banks for several economic crashes in the last 100 years. It's always the same story, deregulate, they get greedy and make risky investments and than expect to have their asses pulled out of the fire when things go sideways.
Credit Unions don't work that way being non-profit.

I'm not saying we should put the big banks out of business (well not today, but that's another story). Collectively pulling hundereds of millions of dollars out of the big banks will serve two purposes
1) Send a message that our patronage is not a given. The need to earn our business.
2) Shrink the big banks and spread the money back out across our financial landscape. The more banking institutions we have, the safer our system is.
Yup, some people really need to watch "Inside Job."

Really....

Ok lets see, who is responcible for all the bad loans...the banks? no...the people who applyed for the loans in the first place KNOWING they could not afford it.

Lets continue with this. Whos fault is it, when the credit limit is pushed and CC's are maxed out...the bank? NO...again people.

Placing the blaim on the banks is like saying guns kill people all by themselves. Yes teh banks have some culpablity in this, but the bigger problem are the idiots now standing up and demanding this and that.

The banks were forced to allow the loans to go through due to regulation from the .fed, the people who were applying and approved were lied to. They could never afford the loan but they were told they could by the lenders because washington told the lenders to give *****es money.

Just looked up Uncle Credit Union, they are also going to charge to use your debit. A 25 cent per debit fee. So everytime you pay you'll have to make sure you select credit instead. Yea I forsee that being a pain in the *** when I'm in a hurry and have to sign a stupid receipt. I can easily see people forgetting and paying $5 a month in fees there. I don't pay a dime for BOA, never have. Haven't been screwed over in the 15 odd years I've been with them. Yea they are gonna start charging for this debit card crap, whatever. It's more work than it's worth to change at this point.

Ok, so YOU knowingly incurred a debt and now you think that it should be wiped out? How the hell does that even make sense? Take responsibility for your own GD actions, people. Hell, I have some debt. I pay it because I, not anyone else incurred it and I am responsible for it.

When I'm back home there is one close to my mom's place and here there is one right across from my office. They've been the best bank I've ever dealt with. Period.

I agree that de-regulation was a problem too. However, again, you can't place all the blaim on that or the banks. People, who knew damn well they could not afford to buy, and knew damn well they would never be able ot keep up payments, signed into the contracts.

Once again, its not the gun, its not the bullet, its the person holding the gun that pulls the trigger.

I was unemployed for 2 years, almost all my debts went into collections. I payed what I could when I could. As soon as I got a job, I paid every debt I owed. It took me a couple years, but I paid them all. My brother said why didn't I just claim bankruptcy and get the debt wiped out and start over from that point cause the 7 years would already been gone and I'd be free and clear and have a clean history. I told him, I made the debt, I paid the debt. That's the way it works, I'm not a lazy *** SOB who takes advantage of the system like that.

Exactly.

I've been in some tough financial situations, but I always found a way to make it work. Even if that meant going without something for a while. I really don't understand how all these people are so friggin' irresponsible. I'm not all that old and I share almost none of the same opinions as these morons.
