Been with my CU for most of my life. Banks have always been a bad deal, in our generation.

Yeah I can't seem to find it, but I remember reading somewhere that organized withdrawals for the purpose of destabilizing a bank can not only be stopped by freezing assets, but is actually illegal (I think it was considered some form of fraud?).

If you don't like big bank practices then close your account and open one at your friendly neighborhood credit union...regardless of the 5th of November BS

Why? I have been with WF for over 20 years now. I have no overdraft fees, I don't get charged for withdraws at any atm, and I don't pay any kind of account fee at all.

The secret, go in and talk to the branch manager, if you are a regular, and you have good standing, they will plug in some account numbers and eliminate your fees for you.

Because the banks are not the problem. The self entitlement and demand for more social programs is.

I don't have enough time in the day.

I will say that a bunch of moronic, self-intitled twits that all think things should be handed to them and fail to consider the consequences of their actions will in no way influence any decision I make.

Ok, you put big banks out of business. I assure you that they have normal workers (branch managers, tellers, etc) that will now be out of work. You think they'll all find work? Negative. You've just added to the unemployment rate by failing to consider the whole picture.

Meh...

Not to mention the fact that if the big banks do go belly up, most funds are covered by the FDIC.

Banks make money by lending out your deposits. If people pull their accounts, even for a day, the banks stand to loose millions of dollars. The banking industry has forgotten who they serve. It's time to remind them.
I'm in. I love HSBC though.....

If there is less money in the big banks, FDIC has less exposure to risk.

We can thank the big commercial banks for several economic crashes in the last 100 years. It's always the same story, deregulate, they get greedy and make risky investments and than expect to have their asses pulled out of the fire when things go sideways.
Credit Unions don't work that way being non-profit.

I'm not saying we should put the big banks out of business (well not today, but that's another story). Collectively pulling hundereds of millions of dollars out of the big banks will serve two purposes
1) Send a message that our patronage is not a given. The need to earn our business.
2) Shrink the big banks and spread the money back out across our financial landscape. The more banking institutions we have, the safer our system is.
