My deductible is $120. So getting $20 back wasn't worth the trouble with going thru insurance.

I'm just a grey-haired cowboy, and a cheap one at that. I have a $100 deductible now, but I was over 40 before I got rid of the $1000 deductible. I started doing that after California made car insurance mandatory. Bastards. I made sure that I had that $1000 liquid somewhere if I needed it. It was a great idea... over the years I was able to keep the thousands of dollars that I would have sent to State Farm for those lower deductibles. Never needed that $1K for crash repairs, either. I seem to have an uncanny abiity to not hit things with my car. Now they think I'm an old man who moves like a three-toed sloth with hemorhoids and won't run into anything very hard, so they lowered the rates. That's just fine with me. When I'm driving a wheel chair around hall corners on one rim, the insurance companies will be putting video cameras and drivers seat electrodes in your rechargable cars.

I'm now on windshield #3.

The original was broken by a quarry truck.

#2 was accidentally scratched to pieces by a well-meaning friend up at Tahoe. He was trying to scrape snow off the car with another piece of snow. Unfortuanely, his 'scraper' had some road grit in it. Luckily, he didn't run it over any paint.

Both of my replacements were by SafeLite and cost just over $300 including the new gasket seal, fitting and tax.

you should check out premier auto glass. They've done group buys for I-club before. I mentioned it to them and got mine installed for 175. Everything works fine and looks like stock. I've had rocks hit my windshield alot and so far no problems. Seems sturdier then the stock POS windshield.

I recently replaced my windshield after getting a 9" crack in it during the last Mt. Hamilton drive. I used Atlas Auto Glass in San Mateo, which is the shop that Carlsson Subaru uses for these sort of things. Pretty good experience, overall.

just cracked mine today... anyone else need to replace and want to maybe start up a group buy or at least do a multiple job discount or somthing?

on a similar note, the crack is up high on the passenger side. can you guys list any downsides to not replacing it? besides the fact that its ugly and annoys me?

at the same time instead of starting a new thread, if someone can answer questions for me:
what deems a windshield replaceable, and when must it be repaired?
when they replace windshields, do they do it pretty well so that theres no leakage and stuff?
if i dont replace the windshield and it rains, will water be able to get in the crack?

I had mine installed by them, but can't really recommend. The guy put the wrong windshield on the first time, then was extremely late when he was supposed to come back the next day to fix it.

Yeah...I'm wary of driving behind big trucks/ big rigs etc.
Got too many rock chips, and a small centimeter sized crack in my front windshield because
of them.

The crack hasn't seem to grown in over a year, but i guess once it grows larger then quarter
sized ill be calling up my insurance company...
