seems to be a lot of paranoia here.

people buy and sell cars all the time...many reasons. I personally don;t think $20K private sell is that great of a deal. I got my wrx for $23.5K w/ 8 miles on it...but that was in 2002.

if you're buying a car used, do your homework: edmunds.com should give you an idea about price range. Next, check out the forums and see what's popular.

Signs of abuse would be worn clutch, worn tires (if still stock), poor maintenance records,.

Mods in itself is not necessarily bad. Ofcourse I've NEVER heard of anyone buying a EBC to lower boost for gas mileage LOL. The greddy is like $400 new right?

People have used MBC to slightly raise their boost to 16psi w/o engine management, that's pretty common and i've not heard of that "equaling" engine damage.

And you should always do a compression test on a used car. It's cheap insurance. You can also take a sample of his motor oil and get it analyzed...water and/or coolant = gasket leak = $$$.

no one piece of advice is foolproof, so do your research, do proper checks, and negotiate a good deal.

good luck!

dan.
