Need Advice Please !!!

OK heres the situation, Ihave been searching for a WRX for over 2 months now. Today I came back from seeing one, It is a 2004 WRX Sedan (Silver) with a little over 9,000 miles. The situation that is making me think about this car is that the owner has installed a turbo timer right now. Previously he had a boost controller installed for a couple of times only. Im being paranoid by the boost controller, I asked him if he ever raised boost, he said "NEVER", only kept it at 8psi and 10psi to save on gas mileage. The boost controller is not installed anymore but he'll give it to me. He said he set the stock psi back to 13.something?? The outside body is in great condtion, inside also. I figure if there was something wrong with the car he wouldn't of told me(such as boost controller wise). I had a few questions on it..

What is stock psi on WRX?
Should I be worried about the boost controller being installed before?
Is 9,000 miles too low for me to be worried about?
Wiring for a boost controller, does it involve splicing?

Any other comments are appreciated.

Thanks
Rick

I believe the stock PSI is 13.2. I read that on a website somewhere when I googled it. ^_^

A previously installed boost controller shouldn't be much of a problem. What you should worry about is how he drove the car regularly and if he broke it in correctly, etc, etc. Hmm... 9K sounds about right. That's okay mileage. It's not really low or really high. So whatever "I" personally would worry about would be driving habits and maintenance at this point. What brand and model is the boost controller? I'm not familar with boost controllers, but it would help a bit if you told us what it was. =)

Just my .02 cents. Good luck shopping for your car!

He bought a WRX, installed a boost controller to turn DOWN the boost, then took it off to sell the car?

I would stay away from the car, but then again I'm the paranoid type.

Don't touch it, unless it's an irresistable deal, and you can get a compression/leakdown test done on it. Personally I'd keep walking. The market is FULL of used WRX's.

I'm curious how he deinstalled the boost controller, then "set the stock psi back to 13.something".

04's + boost controllers - engine management = fried engine.

Both the boost controller and turbo timer are Greddy, this ones not from Cypus Mazda, its a private seller...Reason I am atracted to this car is because he wants $20K, with only 9,000 miles.....He said he broke in the engine by not going over 65mph the first 1000 miles...He is honest though he said "Yes" I have raced on freeways with it a couple of time that's it....I don't know what to think.

I would stay away. Adjusting the boost at all without compensating with fuel/timing adjustments can cause harm too the engine. This is undisputed. If the price is to cheap, there's probably a reason for that.

LOL not going over 65mph.

Proper breakin is keeping it under 4k rpms for 1000miles. If the guy didn't know that, he most likely beat on it right out of the dealer's lot.

Also, if his "modding path" was a boost controller and turbo timer, he did NO research on the car...which to me correlates with abuse.

Good luck...but you get what you pay for.

aren't you at all curious why he bought a brand new car, drove it for less than a year, and is now selling it?
