Question n00b Q? - green clip under dash

So I was getting rid of my dash rattle and dropped one of those white pegs under the dash. Long story short... I was lookinng up by the pedals for it and saw a green clip with one wire coming out of it that was unhooked. Then saw another green clip with one wire.
Logically thought it came loose so cliped it back together.

Hours later started up the car and the check light started flashing like it was knocking. Shut it off, unhooked the wires and its all good.

Question is wtf is that wire for?

not sure, but I know I read this exact same post some where else. I think it is the service port or something.

Can any of t3h i-club tuners answer this question?

IIRC, you plug those together to make your ECU writeable.

I think it also disallows ECU learning, and will flash a CEL if the plugs have been connected for longer then it thinks it should.

The green connector puts the ECU into utility/diagnostics mode. Its primarily used by tuners when reflashing the ECU.

That's for the mechanic to plug in. He then calls you to tell you that your car is running like crap. You notice it, approve the charges. He then unplugs it and changes your oil. Then he sends you on your way..
