Bigworm,
Take it slow man. Like Marksti is hinting at you absolutely will regret spending money on your car in the long run. Eventually the WRX becomes "not cool anymore" and you are stuck with yes a high horsepower, but just another old car. New Camaro coming out, new STI and EVOs coming out, new Supra, new NSX, new lexus supercar, new everything coming out. Pretty soon the bugeye WRX is going to go the way of the past.
Not that it matters, I mean I love old Buick Grand Nationals and DSM's and Colt Starions but you just *might* want to take that fact into consideration because as you well know there are plenty of useless turbo integras and civic SI's running around because their owners thought those cars were the **** back in the day.
As your miledge increases **** happens. I really think that you are not aware of the many maintenace problems that plague high horsepower cars (my friend recently just dropped 2 grand to replace a transfer case and diff on his GT35R powered EVO because they broke just driving around. Bet you didn't even know transfer cases broke, right? A car has a million parts that cost 10's of thousands to fix and they will most ALL break in the next 100,000 miles), and they can only be exacerbated by miledge and use. You think your car is new now, but trust me it will soon have 100k, 150k, 200k miles on it! I sincerely hope this is not your daily driver in the long run.
I mean keep in mind that some of the people on this board who have crazy setups, they are older and make 6 figure incomes, already have houses and families.
Lastly, as I was telling EQtuning, whenever I feel the temptation to mod my car I just look at this: http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/corvette/blat.wmv
630WHP and ungodly lowed torque for less than the price of a 6 speed + 2.5 swap. O yeah don't forgot about the 6 speed that you'll need to hold 500hp.
Let me break that one down for you too:
6 speed - 3000-3500
6 speed shifter assembly - 200
Conversion kit to run R160 rear diff - 1500
if not conversion, R180 - 500
Custom axles to run WRX hubs - 1000
if not conversion and axles, than STI driveshaft, axles, rear diff, hubs, hence brakes, hence 17" wheels to run those brakes.
As you can see things get ridiculously expensive. Just look at the video of the 700+hp vette with 10 grand in mods, whenever you have the temptation to mod your WRX.
Just remember, of course there are daily driven 1000hp Supras. But if their owner afforded to spend 100 plus grand on the car and setup, I don't think they give a rat's **** about maintenance. I keep mentioning this because with cars, maintence always seriously bites you in the **** because you never plan for stuff to break!

Well I heard Geoff remarking the other day how 400whp would be like 530+ hp, so you know...

verc, youre making very good points about the cars getting old and you saying that makes me just want to get a stg 2 sti and leave it alone for my daily driver and get an old muscle car with all new running gear from that vette you gave the link to that sounds like a better idea doesnt it .... damn you now you have me thinking everything over again... btw, i do have the knowledge about cars and what it takes to make power i do know stuff breaks i worked at a hot rod shop building 9 and 10 second cars all day. enough said. all your points make alot of sense, especially the one about the car getting old. ill think some more about it... damn you again.
