All the dealers I asked in the mainland before coming here said 2005 is the new Supra. Prolly twin turbo and all that jazz again. Cant wait to see what they come up with... They got jack in the $25000+ range huh...

No clue, just passing on what a couple dealers in Portland and Boise told me when I was looking for a Supra before moving here. I asked them why Toyota was giving up the $30k or so car range and they mentioned 2005 is when they would be back into it.

The MKIV Supra checked in at $50k+ when it first came up. The de-contented version was ~$43k. The closest thing they had to a ~$30k car was the MR2 turbo which was in the high $20k's when new...

The new Supra is supposed to debut as a performance n/a v8 Lexus before coming out as a Toy...

They always miss the boat. They sure sell a lot of Camrys and Corollas and Tacomas and Tundras though.

It seems to me, that the USDM market is in kind of a sportscar rennaisance (sp?). Toyota is really out of it, too. Nissan is going hogwild. Even SUBARU, never a real player in the SC market here in the US is in it. But no Toyota. What? the Matrix? Right. And they're not doing anything about it. They're focusing on their trucks (profitable? yes. Sporty? no) and on the runabout (see Scion xA and xB). Too bad...

Even a turbo'ed MRS would have kicked booty. It would be a light, Mid engine, RWD fun car, the R&D wouldn't have been that hard. I bet someone in their long term planning department is getting fired.

Undoubtly, Subaru started the affordable performance oriented, no bs segment in the US with the USDM WRX. Ever since then, every company came out with cars that could do better or at least compete. SRT-4, Evo VIII, Focus RS, R32, RX8, and 350z/G35. I knwo the RX8 and 350Z has been in development long before but I'm sure without the introduction of the WRX, it wouldn't be as big.
