Nobody wants a Hyundai, hell, even with all the import/tuner mags pumping them up they still didn't sell well. I remember seeing all those prelaunch articles touting the new cheap upcoming rwd sensation for the drift crowd but look what really happened-nothing special. I hardly ever see them myself. There's a reason for that 100k mile waranty, means they're not very confident any time before that. If you wanna know more about this Genesis Coup (both models), then look them up on Youtube & watch the video reviews, you'll be highly disappointed cuz they're not positive at all. Even the top of the line R Spec got bad reviews, if i was you i'd def put my money elsewhere or wait 'till the Toyoburu comes out, it's all up to you though man. Just giving my .02, coming from your girl's WRX though, i know you won't like it, you can never go back from Subaru!
First off, nobody that owns a WRX/STI has a leg to stand on to judge any cars resale value. WRX/STIs regularly trade for HALF of their sale price only after 4-5 years.

As for power, well its a turbo so who here cares about what it comes with from the factory

scroll through this, the 2.0 is putting tons of hp on stock motors, about even about the same numbers as evos with the same mods.

As far as reliability, well I guess they cant all be bulletproof like modded EJ motors and suby manual transmission lol *runs and hides!*

damn now thats why it makes so much power easy. it has a damn detuned evo engine.

if mitsubishi made a true competitor to the wrx and not that crap AUTOMATIC only ralliart lancer (has that detuned turbo 4B motor too) just knowing how well it takes to mods, it would get more sales. stupid mitsu for not seeing how much more sales they can get if they were to make a true MT for that sportback and ralliart lancer with the turbo.

IDK about this model, but all of the Hyundai's that I know require the engine to be jacked up to change the spark plugs, just bad design and a PITA.

The Ralliart SST transmission is a dual clutch MANUAL and is the same as the Evo X MR minus the S-sport mode, which should be able to have tuner "turn on".

The Theta engine is not the same as the 4b11
Open deck design makes them less likely to be reliable combined with weaker internals, (not Forged) seems to be the biggest down fall.
The single scroll td04 and a SMIC the size of my oil cooler does not help in performance either.
Most parts on the 4b11 will NOT bolt on without modifications unlike in the Ralliart.

Wait till the toyobaru comes out so you have something to compare it to. For rwd fun buy a cheap 240 or older supra to play with until the toyobaru comes out

My friend brought in his car for service and got a Hyundai Genesis sedan as a loaner car. It drove okay and didn't break down, but the build quality is still typical Hyundai crap. Even though it's marketed as a "luxury" sedan designed to compete with E-Class Mercedes Benzes and 5-series BMW's, there's no way I'd buy one even at half the price of a Benz/BMW. The car just feels cheap. And there's no getting over that Hyundai stigma associated with those cars.

Sounds like you might as well buy it because you seem set on doing so already. Living in Cupertino you see these things rolling around everywhere, I'd say I have at least 7 friends that drive the genesis coupe, so I've driven the auto and manual version of the 2.0t. I'd say they can hold it down pretty well in the looks department with a little bit of work. The only thing I'm not w big fan of is the transmission, but maybe that's because I'm used to the sti's transmission. It feels clunky and cheaply made. If you're looking at the 3.8 model I have a friend that used to be on the forums before he switched over from his 04 sit and we both agree that it's nowhere near as fun.

And if we're gonna be honest I hate to say it but I am part of the it's a Hyundai crowd. I just don't feel like it's been long enough for them to truly prove themselves, or maye that's just me.

Thanks for all the input guys. I was planning on building a AE86 before I got on the Genesis kick, so I'll probably go back back to that if I don't like how the car rides..

See what i mean, all these people tell you the same negative stuff about the car basically but they ain't getting blasted like me, wtf is up with that! I ain't the only one with this kind of knowledge & feelings, every Hyundai still sucks, no matter how hard they try. In this price range, stick with Subie, it don't get any better, trust me. All i'm gonna say is wait until you drive it, then you'll know what we're all talking about, it's the only way for sure.

I'm not trying to blast you, I know Hyundai's have a bad rep abviously, but they seem to be doing better in the past few years, though yes, it is still a Korean made econo car.. I'm going to test drive it, if the trains shifts funky and/or the drivability is sloppy then I won't get it. I'll buy a 350z or and older rwd car..

On a side not, speaking of the global engine, i think it was called GEMA, a partnership between Dodge, Hyundai, & Mitsubishi to make a worldwide 2.0 4 cyl motor that they can all use. I think Mitsubishi got the best deal out of it by far cuz they're the only one to have the strongest motor out of the three. They probably told the others to detune their motors & not make it powerful so it can't compete or outshine their mighty Evo X at the time. You wanna know why, cuz the Dodge Caliber SRT-4 back then was suppose to have 300 hp but mysteriously got detuned at the last minute to 260, hmmm sounds fishy to me. Mitsubishi didn't want to get embarrassed by a cheaper alternative, if so then no one would want to buy an Evo X at it's current price, so they said no way jose. And look at Hyundai's situation, even worse, their version of it only producing 210 hp, talk about pathetic. They got the worst end of the stick imho. It's basically the same architecture, but with the respective company's own parts, so it has the capability to be strong & fast from the start, Mitsubishi just monopolized it since the "Evo" just had to be the very best, performance wise & in the consumer's head. It was all politics man, i'm not even sure if the three way Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance still exists. All i can say is if the SRT-4 & Genesis Coup had the same hp as the Evo from the factory but was way cheaper, it would have been a completely different story, so much for equality huh.
