I spent 10K for about 500 guests and got back 13K not including gifts. You have to make sure you invite the right people :P

I think I got off lucky on the expense side, Seeing as I could not get everyone I wanted here from the UK and if we got married in the UK my wife's family would not have been able to make it (all of them anyway) we decided that we would just take a nice break in Mexico and get married on the beach thus pissing everyone off from each family but pleasing none (it's a talant I have).

I think I may get hit on the expense side later as we agreed to have a big thing on our ten year anniversary and renew our vows in Tahoe on the lake, this one I am expected to front bringing all my folks from the UK out for (at least I'll have some beer buddies over!).

Just remember folks, marriage isn't a word it's a sentance!

Post Weddings...

Sometimes, the more expensive the wedding, the more it is doomed to failure.

Someone around here had a VERY expensive wedding, spent almost 5K JUST on the photographer (didn't get the negatives), and seemed to have a really beautiful day. Less than two years later, the fairytale ended.

I'm thinking of inviting about a dozen friends to the ceremony (chapel only holds 15), and inviting maybe 30 people to a reception at a winery afterward. That's IF and WHEN I decide to take the plunge again.

If you think getting married is expensive... wait until you get divorced... you'll be lucky to even KEEP your car.

LOL, my soon-to-be ex-husband (who has trust funds out the wazoo) was actually going to sue me for alimony because I was the one working and his home-based consulting business yielded little to no income. He threatened to take my car, too, and I told him he could have it, but it comes with payments... then he didn't want it anymore.

Now he's down to his last resort - making death threats... what a loser.

Oh wait - this is supposed to be a POSITIVE thread about marriage. Carry on.

Isn't he the one whose mommy and daddy bought him the house, and now mommy told him to quit making death threats? I think his exact words were, "My mom told me to..."

He's also the one that thinks his Aikido skills are best used on a defenseless (other than running his deserving a$$ over) Forester...

Oh, and does he STILL want to collect for the wedding photographer?? He charged you rent before you were married, right?? Hmm...

Here's some helpful Filipino traditions to make sure you can make some money.

On the invitation, mention that you have a wishing well and a money tree. You could mention that they do not have to bring any gifts just the wishing well would do, but why not have both. Aside from these 2 things they created from I don't know where, you also have that money dance. Don't worry how silly it looks, it's money!

Not a tradition, but people are now able to get sponsorships when getting married as long as there are banners and name brand items are used from the sponsor. Some maybe talented enough to pull this off. I read about a couple that was able to do this for $30K with no out of pocket money, all sponsored.
