Just got a used STi and want to know what to do about the suspension clunk

Hey guys,
I just picked up an' 04 STI at a great price. Everything is great but it has the infamous STI suspension clunk in the rear passenger side. However, the car does have the Subaru Gold extended warranty. After looking at the warranty paperwork, it says that it does not cover shocks since it is wear and tear. The suspension is 100% stock. Do any of you guys know if they'll replace the strut under warranty b/c of the known issue with the clunk? And do they have to order parts for it to fix it? Although I do have another WRX that I can use, I'm still in the new car excitement stage so I'd prefer not to keep it overnight if possible. I would probably take it to Ron Price up in SF or Stevens Creek near my work (although I've heard horrible things about Stevens Creek). Any advice? BTW, the warranty has a $100 deductible so if they are not going to cover it but they are going to charge me a "diagnostic fee" then I'd rather spend a few bucks on some Mobile 1 grease and have a temporary fix.

I believe they will replace that. Go to IWSTI and search for that issue.Plenty of threads there on this. Personally I WOULD go with a KONI set-up....by the way how many miles on the car?

70K miles on the car. Extended warranty goes to 100K. The previous owner said that he took it in but they couldn't diagnose it or something like it was normal.

Within my 30k warranty I had the struts replaced twice (front and rear). Was considering the 100k extended before my 30k ran out but it explicitly disallowed suspension coverage so I skipped it.

You can use some white lithium grease to quiet it down, but while it starts with just a clunk you'll probably soon be losing some height as well. When it was bad I'd roll to a stop and I'd hear the clunk and the back end would squat down about 3/4" of an inch.

mechanically, is anything "bad" gonna happen to the car?

or is it just noise and the strut needing replacement?

I brought my 05 STI to Ron Price in SF about 6 months ago to replace my rear strut that was clunking. They didn't have any problem replacing it.
