For those who are a bit slow or didnt read the page this is not the guy who was looking for a warp coil for his time machine. nor is it the guy who used his insider knowledge from teh future to make millions of dollars on stocks. This is a DIFFERENT STORY.
A rather intresting one as it DOES touch on some rather INTRESTING issues in physics that are CURRENTLY being researched.
Oh and one more thing OUR SCIENCE HAS PROVEN THAT TIME TRAVEL IS POSSIBLE. Just nothing anywhere near as advanced to be able to ransport anything but a single photon back in time more then a millionth of a billionths of a trillionth of a second before it should have exsisted.
SO there!
Intresting story, if it is real (which it could be) it is cool. If it is a fake then it is even cooler as alot of time and effort were put into it. I like the whole 04 is the begining of the end thing
i knew if bush was to get relected everyone would revolt.... hahaha
jk following his predictions and some of DEANS statements it seems to me that in that guys world Dean wins which means he lives up to his promise of not support isreal in the ways we used to (causing isreals close freinds in that region to start to think that an attack is feasible thus creating that entire jew/arab prediction thing he mentioned)
If you look at it in that light then some of his predictions coming from 00 and 01 compared to the statements that some of the 04 political characters are making it sort of falls into place a bit.
And the princeton string quartet mention is rather intresting as well along with kerr and other such mentions.
Intresting read still up in the air about it.
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!

Oh and that sucks about the 3 billion people, (1 in 2 people on the face of the earth). No wonder he mentions a "short WWIII" takes only a few seconds to kill that many people now a days. I allso found intresting his tale of isreal prepared for the "ultimate defense" that sounds a bit brash and harsh.
Anyways only time will tell if it is true or not, its up to you and I if we want to take it to heart or not. Some of us it seems have allready made our minds up while others are a bit on the fence.
What ever happens happens.

guess when you stop and think about the science behind it all it seems a bit far fetched from our current view on science and tech. Who knows if there is a ground breaking even tin science that changes all that or if the expert who posted that email is missing something or not.
Regardless its a good story and only time will tell if it is true or not.
It is a bit "on target" as far as the social portions of it and how current state of affairs is heading.
Cool post got the mind juices flowing a bit.

wow, that was some serious discussion....but the proof is in the puddin'. From the calculations, references, and examples that were given by Darby, I am leaning more toward the Hoax theory, but some of the political and global predictions are (Like you said Dre) not too far off from reality....and how could someone know such specific times(years)/events, such as the "Mad Cow" prediction and the unrest of society around upcoming presidential elections (which happens to be this year), 3-4 years ago?
We'll see what happens with the Pres. elections this year....."only time will tell"

Also some intresting tid bits about he ibm 5100 pc as it had NO internal clock ANYWHERE in the system.
Which would lend an intresting bit of truth to the story. As in 2038 we will face another y2k like incident. And having a pc desgined with no system clock could provide a bit of knowledge into how to build a newer version. (rem that roughtly half of hte worlds population is gone in the future portrayed by JT).
Another thing that i found was that the unrest and civil dispute was between rural and metroplitan people. That is rather intresting in and of its self, seems that in the story russia nukes US major cities, and of course US retaliates causing a global slide ingo a brief nuclear war.
Wonder about human survival with all that fall out floating around.
Anyways it is an intresting story and once again if it is a fake it is damn near pure genius. (i mean come on who even knows about the IBM 5100 it was developed by a team of maybe 12 people 20 + years ago, it was innovative but never realy mass prodcued and was a farce of IBM for a while from what i read).
Anyways no one seems to be able to kill the story once and for all.
Hell there are people looking for the guys "grand father" as we speak. haha sorta funny if u ask me true or not.

It sounds so boring. I'm a cityboy not a cowboy though I'm not criticizing that lifestyle it's cool just not for me. If you can't have fun and by fun I mean taking the Suby (probably no gas stations in this guys hippie future) up to the mountains for some good boarding or checking out a rally in Laughlin or Steamboat then I don't want to live. The latter for two reasons one it'd take three months to get there on horseback and my a$$ would be killing me and motorsports would be likely be nonexistant. I don't fish, camp, hunt or hike. My idea of outdoors is taking a Carbon board down a mountainside as fast as I can. I can come up with more believable crap then that guy. I think he OD'ed on two many post apocalyptic animes. Dopey Ba$tard. By the way I can rant with the best of 'em

Very interesting indeed, which leads me to more insteresting and more staggering topics-
OIL PEAK
That page pretty much sum up things. I've found it very insightful. Well, doubt it that it would happen within 2010, but it kinda has me worry now.
Some interesting and funny prevention:
But this is America.

Some interesting and funny prevention:
How can we best deal with Peak Oil as a society? Peak Oil is going to happen. People are going to die. We cannot stop it. But we may be able to minimize the amount of suffering while maximizing the chances of building a successful post-oil civilization if we immediately come together as a species and do the following:
1. Stop all wars and other nonessential economic activity. Dedicate all of our time and resources to developin energy alternatives.
2. Stop having kids. We cannot feed our current population. When the Oil Crash comes, the situation will go from bad to worse to nightmareish. More children means an increased demand for food that we cannot produce.
3. No more pets. They require food that needs to be used to feed people.
4 No more beef eating, as cattle raising is extremely energy intensive.
5. Drastically cut our energy consumption. This means eating produce that is grown locally, investing in hybrid cars, substituting bicycles for cars, limiting our purchase of consumer goods to those that are absolutely necessary, and no air travel unless absolutely necessary.

yer damn right it gets the juices flowing, i don't think i slept a freaking wink last night. i just couldn't stop thinking about exactly what would have to happen in order to make that "worldline" as he calls it, to happen.
dre, if anyone knows about the unix bug thing, wouldn't it be you? i thought you were some computer h0.
and what about the abilities of the 5100 that he describes? can't you verify that it did or did not have the capabilities that he claims it does?
there are some rather simple ways to find out whether this is real or not, i think most people are too content to just believe this elaborate story rather than spend their time trying to ruin the whole thing for everyone.

it's a great tale and who really knows if it's true or not until those date(s) arrive. i wiill say that this John character would be a great writer in the Sci-Fi dept. I read everything in that link. I just got stumped on when he was asked if anyone knew he was here (in our time)...then later mentions he was recruited into timetravel. VERY good story indeed and i have to tip my hat to the fella for thinking it up because it makes you wonder.
Oh and uhhh.....
I also stumbled onto this URL which is 27pages worth of forum chit-chat that claims he's a fake with convincing data.

That is definatly worth noting, and is a seldom thought about feature. I still need to confirm all that of course but that is from preliminary research that i have seen.

The civil war is between those who want goverment protection and those who DO NOT want to **** away the civil liberites given to them by the consitituion. Due to this unrest the rest of the world feels it economicly which furthur strresses the societies of china, russia, europe and others. China is one of the first countries to collapse in on its self (after us i guess). Russia for some reason seems to stay in control (he didnt say much about it).
All very plausible scenarios given current trends and events. If you didnt know Chinas economy is basicly proped up by american consumerism and gov money. (like alot of other places)
So if we were the first domino you can bet your *** that things would get realy ugly realy fast, and dont think the goverment doesnt know this allready. Hence why they COULD err on the side of clamping down on civil liberites, which COULD drive some people to remove them selves from the system either peacefully (lets hope) or by force (the story as it is told).
Lots of good stuff to munch on.

Didn't read any replies after porkchops... but coming from a person thats really into time travel and physics, I have to say, he had a very believable story. I never give into media hype and such... but this was strangly different. He touched on various subjects that all struck interest with me. I don't know what to believe, but if it is a hoax, I have to say, it's probably one of the best thought-out hoax's ever created. The guy has marit, and knows what he's talking about.
I love reading about his stuff. It gives me hope.. to know that we as a species, are moving forward in science.
