how the wrx reads the speed?

how the wrx reads the speed?

ok so i noticed.. my clutch is slipping like a **** and when i gun it in like 3rd as i am getting on the freeway and when it slips really bad my speedo says i just went from like 40mph to like 70 in like 3 seconds... now i know my car is fast but i didnt know it was that fast

well obviously our cars are not getting its speeds based on the rotation of the tires like a lot of cars.. it has to be somewhere with the tranny.. but if my clutch is slipping then the tranny must not be spinning like it should obviously.. which can only mean the sensor has to be somewhere between the flywheel and the tranny... because it appears to be reading off my slipping clutch.. which would explain why i am going up 30mph in like 2-3 seconds when very obviously i am not.

anyone know where our car reads the speed its really throwing me off.

The vehicle speed is measured from the speed sensor on the transmission, look on the turbo side of the transmission and you'll see a black plug facing up with a cable that is covered by a white sheath.

MY06 saw the sensors become integrated into the wheel and abs sensor.

Are you sure you are looking at your speedo and not your tach?

yes because my tach doesn't work.

when i gunned it the mph would go from the like 70 i would be sitting at then go up to seriously like 90+ in seconds then if i let off the gas it would drop back down to the real speed.

but i just thought of this question the other day.
how do cars record mileage?
revolutions of the tires? but different rims/tires combo will have different circumferences, right?
just curious.

Answer- they measure mileage badly, usually off by 3-4% at least, often by >5% in my experience.

having bigger wheels wont affect it.

when you get bigger wheels, the tire's inner diameter gets thinner so the outter stays the same like 99% of the time.

having different sized wheels will most definetly affect it- although to what degree is relative to the rolling circumference of the tire, but it certainly does make a difference to both the odometer and speedometer accuracy.

You can never get an odometer to read exactly, because tires wear.

Is it slipping with the first clutch you swapped in there or is it slipping with the second one you just picked up?

no i meant before i started the new clutch process. back when it was the old slippy clutch.

i dont install the second new clutch until tomorrow.. or technically today as it is 2am.

this new one will work... and i will inspect it prior to installing it! this clutch thing is getting easy
