I have a wrx wagon but am interested in upgrading to a sti. I was looking on craigslist when I found this add.

It's at 15 right now, but I am thinking it might be worth a little less. Does this seem like a risky purchase? I could just take it down to a dealer or local shop and have them rebuild the motor. I am wondering though how that would effect the future of the car, if I wanted to sell it, not that I plan too for quite some time. Please, share your thoughts.

It was probably beat on to the point of losing compression then some more for a year
IMHO not worth it
Buying a performance car used, especially a broken one, might be risky down the road since there might not be any obvious problems but they might arise as you continue to drive the vehicle

But if I am rebuilding the motor, will it matter if he beat on it? I am just unsure as too if it really matters? But I for sure know what you mean.

 

Contact a vender here on i-club and ask how much it would cost to repair/upgrade/build a new motor and then add that to the 15k (parts and labor)..... I wouldnt do it unless you do the work yourself and/or have fun working on motors.

 

theres also a chance after putting in the newly built engine, you may still run into problems.

its just not worth the headaches. if theres anything I've learned about modding cars, its get things done right the first time.
