Going to buy a shotgun today. Gun guru's, advice?

Yea, something tells me for home defense and in a serious emergency the last thing you'd be thinking about is what type of ammo. You'd want your gun in your hand loaded asap if someone is going to hurt you, and you'd want to make sure the first shot if not the 2nd will stop them in their tracks.

chiming in a little late here but my wife was really really reluctant to shoot a 12 gauge. She's pretty small (5'1") and had all these ideas of what was going to happen when she did... well, her fears were needless in the end. She'd learned enough beforehand to have a proper stance and aside from the first shot was dead center for the rest of them.
I'm pretty sure we were firing birdshot though. But at least she's no longer askurred to fire the boomstick.
