shotgun owners over here please......
Im looking into buying a shotgun sometimes this month. I know there are a good number of gun owners on here. I need someone to point me in the right direction of which shotgun to purchase. My budget is around 300 give or take. Looking into getting a 12gauge. TIA

With a $300 budget you can't go wrong with a Mossberg model 500 (they are about $350). There is even a "home security" specific version.

$300ish budget? Get a remington 870. Badass shotty, and a whole bunch better that the Mossy500 in terms of quality of the gun... They are both uber reliable however. 7 in the tube, one 2 hole, some bastards are about to go home!
Also, pump action is far more reliable than semi-auto.

I had an Ithaca double-barrel 12ga for a while - I think it was made in the late 1800's. It was more a family heirloom than a gun so I gave it to my cousin who collects our family stuff. Not very practical and of course only has two shots. It's knocked me on my **** before as well.

If three hundred is the budget, it's 870 Express, no question. Fits your budget and can be "modded" through the roof if you chose to do so later.

I love the Remington 870, but the Mossberg 500 is a solid gun too. Big 5 sometimes have the for sale for that price range. Here are some pics of my 870 that I use for duty.

I'm looking for something myself. Something scary.
Pistol grips illegal? I shot one a long time ago that had a pistol grip and loved it.
Definately want pump.
any other ideas....larger budget...say $300-600?

BrokenArrow's shotgun shown above would be perfectly legal for a civilian to own in CA, to the best of my knowledge by looking at the photo.
The game changes when you go to semi-auto shotguns though.

Another vote for an Rem 870 or a Moss 500. I've shot them both. I think I like the Moss better is just because of where the safety sits.
For a semi, I scored an FN SLP on Gunbroker a while back for ~$500.
My next shotty will likely be either one of the remmy's with the knoxx stock, or the other FN, the TPS.
btw, nice shotty, BrokenArrow.
