101 octane here in phoenix by my house has been $5.99 for a long time now. i wonder if normal gas will ever get that high. also, i have some friends here at work that lived in europe and we still have it easy. imagine paying 3.50 for a liter, not a gallon. thats why everyone drives scooters in Italy!

Yeah, I dunno - was thinking Barstow for the Shell.

It's a hard one because what are we gonna do - stop buying gas?? Not for me..

I don't get how a larger gap between prices would gouge the SUV drivers since they use regular and premium will always be higher.

While I too am irritated by a single person using a 9 person SUV to commute, I also don't get how SUV's are such a huge issue when there are other things out there that use quite a bit more fossil fuels. Like a cruise ship WHEN IT'S NOT EVEN MOVING, a C-130 that needs ~3 gallons of fuel to travel 1 mile @ cruise, NASFACKINGCAR, etc etc etc. Yes, they are a problem - but there are bigger fish to fry first.

I have been considering a VW TDI, but diesel isn't much cheaper. I still think it's a good idea. Till then I will keep shoving ~$55+/week into my R32 to get to work... Back in '98 it used to cost me around $70-$80 to fill up my Mondeo's tank so I have been with high prices for a while - but that doesn't make it right or fun...

How fast do you want to go?

$5.xx for non oxygenated pump 100 at the local 76's. The tracks average $7/gal for unleaded 100 from their stations (LS $7.50, TH and Infineon slightly less). It's a bit more for C16 and higher octane leaded fuels. $20-30/gal is pretty normal for the custom blended stuff, though.

too bad E85 has less energy per gallon so you consume 30%+ fuel to go the same distance

Hey at least the Diesel wasn't more than the Premium at the one stations. Gas prices going up don't hurt you nearly as bad as DIESEL. Even if your car doesn't run on diesel, EVERYTHING else you buy got there on diesel. Trucks, ships, trains... DIESEL.

Diesel is cheaper to refine than gas and it's being sold for more than Premium in many places right now. Transport companies don't have a choice, but they take a hit on existing contracts, then just start passing the cost on to you.
