Yeah, because endangering the live's of those around/behind you is a great solution to a temporary problem. I don't care how small the weight is it can cause much larger problems.

Every time I hear someone say they do something similar I seeth with anger. What an absolute irresponsible way to handle a problem. I would *never* do something like this and 100% discourage anyone else from doing so either - be it in a car OR on a bike.

DON'T ****ING THROW THINGS OUT OF YOUR CAR AT OTHER PEOPLE OR CARS!!! EVER!!

Edit: To the OP... you were wrong. Pay the fine, hit up traffic school and learn some defensive driving. The best way to avoid situations like this and tickets is to take yourself out of the equation in a calm manner. Do I always follow my own advice? Nope. I'm only human, just like you.

Nothing was stopping you from slowing down, dropping BEHIND the car that was on your right and letting truck dude pass. Did you even consider this option? Sure, it might have cost you a few minutes, but at least you'd have saved yourself a ticket and moved to a safer position. I do my best to get out of the left lane if someone is coming up fast behind me even if it means I have to slow down a tad to do it.

I'm sorry, but how was passing the Saturn a better option than letting the truck pass you? Be a responsible adult, admit fault, pay your fines, and learn your lesson.

Wouldn't have even cost him a couple minutes. Assume the truck was following at a distance of 1 second, and "safe following distance" is 4 seconds? Allow .5 seconds for the length of the truck? That's less than 5 seconds lost to fall in line behind the truck at a safe distance. I hope his job is paying him enough that a speeding ticket cost less than the loss of <5 seconds.

According to the OP, no one else (except the Saturn in front and the truck behind) was around. Not sure how you believe a 2 oz. weight against his windshield is going to endanger their life. Will it crack his windshield? Yup, there's a good chance of that. Will it shatter his windshield and blind him with glass shards blowing through his face, rendering him blind and incapable of operating his vehicle? Nope, not a very good chance of that.

Would I do this myself? No, because I believe in taking responsibility for my actions and their consequences. From the tone of the posts throughout this thread, however, it doesn't seem as though the OP has that problem. It's either that, or perhaps the Honda Ridgeline who sideswiped me on the freeway while trying to run me off the road in a construction zone has made me a bit bitter. The paint transfer won't buff out of my fender.

[QUOTE=CaliSuby;3083034]If the truck guy would have passed me I would have just got back in the slow lane and continued at 65mph... It's just my fkn luck[/

With all respect Vrt, read the entire info before you "lecture" one. I didn't go in front of the Saturn to drive "faster".. Was to allow the truck tO go by me. I was then gonna go back on the slow lane and CONTINUE to drive slow like I was the whole time.... It's just an instance where you have to actually be in to fully undestand. I wanted the truck to pass me / get behind it. I'm not Gonna break check anyone/ risk a truck total my car to proof anything or put my life ad risk. I simply wanted to get away from him but adults act so much different in their cars... They lOose all respect and forge hOw old they are.

I'm confused then. You were behind the Saturn going 65, truck behind you. Yes? Then you sped up to 75 to get behind the truck that was behind you? Was there only a single lane of travel in your direction and you had to use the on coming lane as a passing lane? Even so, pulling onto the shoulder would have served the same purpose if the ultimate goal was to get behind the truck. But hey, I guess I had to be there.

EDIT: Just read your post right after mine, I still don't see a life or death situation forcing you to speed rather than slow down or switch lanes a second time.

k...last time..

I was on the fast lane going 65mph behind the saturn..one car in the slow lane that was next to me and the saturn. The saturn was going the same speed as the slow lane car. I hate it when cars in the fast lane go the same speed as the slow lane but like I said, I wasnt in a hurry to get to work so i was chillin on cruise control. I see a truck merge on the high way and get right behind me and on the *** because he was in a hurry (Not my fault again that he cant get up early, im driving speed limit 65). He turns his high beams on right away (this is all within 15 seconds or so) I thought of switching lanes but couldnt becuase of the car that was next to me and the saturn to speeding up...As soon and the first exit came up the car next to me exited so i quickly changed to the slow lane to let the truck ride the saturns ***. But the truck switch lanes the same exact time i did ( actually almost rear ended me) and just rode my *** harder, my guess is he "thought" i cut him off to not allow him to pass anyone, wich i wasnt it...he them turns the high beams on and starts honking..the saturn is STILL next to me so i speed up to 75 and get infront of the saturn..Sure enought there is a cop up front and I was hoping he saw the high beams but didnt i guess. Anyways the truck exited on Soquel and the cop pulled me over right after that exit..I explained to him everything, and told him i was driving chill the whole time ( I have no need to be driving like a nutt at 330am to work) That i just sped up cause this truck was getting "crazy" with me...

Anyways...what im trying to say is that YES i sped up to 75 but only for that split second for a legit reason. Not to have fun or drive like an idiot. I was gonna get back in the slow lane if the truck just passed me and the cop had not been there, i would have continued to drive 65 mph to work. I never had bad intensions. I was trying to get away/allow this "savage" driver get a by so he can quit putting me and my car at risk...

All we're saying is that your reason doesn't sound like a "legit" reason for speeding (which there are very few of). If you moved over without the intent to pass the Saturn then there still should've been room to move back into you're previous position and let the truck pass on the right. All we're saying is that regardless of intent, you broke the law. The sign doesn't say "Maximum speed limit 65 unless you have a good reason or it is only for a short period of time"

I'm not trying to call you a bad person or anything or attack you, just saying that speeding is speeding.

I'm sorry you got a ticket, it sucks. As many have stated, you were caught speeding and regardless of the reason it's against the law.

Recently I let someone else drive my car and they got pulled over for speeding while I was in the passenger seat. The CHP officer gave me a ticket for no front plate. My plate had been knocked off by an idiot parallel parking in SF not more than three days earlier. The officer did not care. We were in the Sac area so I didn't have the option of going to the courthouse with proof of correction unless I wanted to make the two hour drive and waste half my day. On top of that, we were in a double fine safety zone! Basicly, I got screwed. Despite all of this, I didn't start a thread titled: "F the CHP". It sucks, but I took my licks because I was not in compliance with the law.

Between the "F the CHP" title of this thread and someone else encouraging throwing fishing weights at other cars, I'm tempted to take my i-club stickers off.

Just understand we all let our frustration differently then others... Why were you allowing someone to speed in your car? Why didn't you fix your license plate when you had 3 days to so. Your friend intended to speed for FUN not me. I sped up to allow the tailgater to pass me....

My friend was driving because I was too tired after a long day of snowboarding.

I hadn't gotten a chance to buy a new license plate bracket yet because of my work schedule/too eager to hit the mountain.

I can't say for sure since I was sleeping, but my friend was most likely speeding because he wanted to get home, not because it's "FUN". Especially since this was three hours into the return trip...

Did you ever consider the fact that law enforcement officers are also enthusiasts and they often frequent forums like this too?

The only thing keeping lifted trucks from tailgating you every time you drive your car are the CHP and the other law enforcement agencies on the road.

Please don't take my comments personally, I agree that your situation sucks and I hate tailgaters. I just don't agree with the title of this thread and the idea of putting peoples lives in danger by throwing stuff at cars. While the chance is slim, I just don't want to be singled out by law enforcement because I associate with i-club, which I love.
