BTW, I did a quick search on "Linda Murphy" since email the dad sent to the OP mentioned the lady was an attorney. The only Linda Murphy who is a practicing attorney in CA is this person: State Bar of CA :: Linda Marie Murphy

Looks like she works for the Attorney General's office in SF. It could be very possible that she's using her position to leverage power with the local PD to go after people that she has a vendetta against.

I suggest you don't contact either her or the police officer without an attorney representing you.

 

you should monitor her every action and take a log of every time she breaks the speed limit on the street and then file a complaint well if she speeds at all.

Obviously OP cant do 90% of the things suggested in this thread if he wants to keep his relationship. OPs going to have a Maddad on his car soon so he should be square. I would stock DP up and then meet with the cop after and let him db test you. Problem solved and swap to catless after the meeting.

This is one of those rock and hard place situations. To keep girlfriends dad happy vs letting your rights get violated. Sometimes in life you have to bend over to take the path of least resistance. (NO HOMO)

 

Here is a thought...so do you think this lady will stop at the sound of your exhaust and won't bother you with any other petty first world problems (related to the car or your personal life)? Escpecially now that you indicated to her that you will easily cave into her power trips?

Personally, I would (politely and tactfully) confront the accusing lady. I have a few neighboors that constantly report me to HOA over every trivial reason possible (ex. checking my oil level, checking and filling tire pressure, etc). It is amazing how cowardly and pathetic those people are in person once you try to level with them and resolve it face to face. It is easy to hide behind a keyboard or someone else's authority.

...called the cop. Told him I'd get a quieter exhaust. He's happy and so is the lady.

Not only does she work for the attorney general but she is also head of the neighborhood watch and reports directly with the chief of police.
