Same car, same day, EL headers increase torque 20-30 points when the ecm is tuned for the parts.
The ported stockers & UEL headers, in my opinion & experience, are cost prohibitive when you look at dollar per tq/hp gained.
But, what the **** do I know....

im 95% set on running an EL header now after all the feedback I got from this thread. NOW, I just gotta do some research on WHICH headers to get. I shootin for the Tomei EL but geez, its goin to cost me a pretty penny

Maybe APS got their act together with this revision.
EL all the way.so you loose a little of the rumble, big deal.if you want fast *** **** spool and topend thrust get a good EL and never look back.GT spec or gruppe S are very very good headers.got over 60k on mine and not one leak, crack or issue

^ one of the very few people with the gruppe suck header, i went through 2 in less then one year. I also know of about 10 people that have also had huge issues with them. I would say the best are tomei and Perrin

Also many people love the way my car sounds with it, even though I do not. At first I hated it and missed the Subie grumble but I am actually learning to love it.

I usually do not through my opinion in when it comes to this sort of thing but sine I have first hand experience I thought I would give it a shot.
At the shop we sell mainly three brands of headers APS, Tomei and Full Race. As far as the APS headers go unless there new redesign pans out I am very skeptical about selling there headers again. We have had nothing but problems with them cracking over the last few years. The Tomei headers on the other hand both equal and non equal length have given us no problems. The Full Race headers are very very nice and well made but way a metric butt load. We have had no problems with these headers either.
As far as power goes between the Tomei equal length and non equal length I have seen a little difference but not enough to warrant saying one makes more power then the other but then again not all the cars were exactly the same and we dynoed them on different days. I personally use the Tomei Equal length header on my car and have had great luck with is no problems and it makes great power across the power band.
I have found from talking to many people that everyone has had good or bad experiences with just about everything on the market. If I were the O.P I would talk to you tuner and tech see what there recommendation as far as headers go and then make your decision from there.
And that is my 2 cents
