Car/truck would def be the way to roll during the apocalypse. I'd be rocking that Lamborghini SUV that came out in the late 80s. That thing was straight out of mad max in terms of performance!

Specs:

V12
500HP
500lb/Ft
4WD
Carbon Fiber tires, run flats
0-60 in 8 seconds (Is fast for a 6,000lb vehicle, compare that to an H1 hummer, this thing is FAST).

This came out in 1986, those specs are impressive for today let alone back in 1986!!! This thing is suppose to put a Hummer H1 to shame in every way possible, but it was expensive as hell which is why no one has one.

I'd love to have one in flat olive drab with a .308 machine gun mounted to the back. Now THAT would be fun!
that is so freakin sweeeet!!!

They did it on F&F right? lol the moto chase scene.
If youre gonna get shot youre gonna get shot, unless you have a bulletproof cab. A moto would be a quicker getaway i would think.

I saw one at that exotic dealer on Van Ness a year or 2 ago. I was like, whoTF would want that? because it was hideous IMO though i didn't know the specs.

There's no way you can fire a two handed weapon while riding a motorcycle... Even if you did manage to fire the weapon, there's no way you're going to hit anything. In a car, you can have someone drive while you stick out the window and take out targets with your quick acquisition holographic weapons sight.

The only thing a bike is good for is a very quick getaway if you're solo... Other then that, a car or SUV is the way to go in an emergency situation.

If my friends and I had a truck during a zombie invasion, I'd be strapped down to the bed with an automatic rifle (Perhaps an AK or something) with drum magazines after drum magazine after drum magazine... I'd be laying down suppressive fire and launching 40mm grenades from my launcher that is attached to my primary rifle.

That is something you def can't do from a motorcycle.

And if we want to get SUPER fancy, since it was the end of the world and chaos everywhere, I'd rob a military base and mount a 7.62NATO minigun to a mount which would be attached to a hummer H1 (Or that lambo I posted earlier). Keep 10k worth of ammo in the back. We drive around just leveling everything and anything that stood in our way... I would have the mini-gun and would fire standing/seated (seated in an almost standing position) and my guns would all have smaller automatic rifles, all with 40mm grenades.

Now, what the HELL is anyone going to do against that!? You'd need a missile to take us out... Even then a mini gun can lay down sooo much lead at once that it can take missiles out mid flight!

Man, I'm getting all hot and bothered just thinking about firing a mini gun from back of an SUV.

Here's footage of a mini-gun in action. When you see tracer rounds, only 1 of 10 rounds is a tracer. Imagine if they were all tracers!?

Skip to about a 1:00, this is a clip of the mythbuster guys shooting a minigun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvHMbN_epe4

Also keep in mind that the bullets being fired out of the mini gun are HUGE compared to what our guys use in their M16/M4 rifles. They pierce 1" of solid steel without a problem, and thats the NON-Armor piercing rounds too!

One more, this is the ULTIMATE zombie setup and I wouldn't change a god damn thing! Look how perfect that is for our thread!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG34m...eature=related

Can you imagine having a quick deploy minigun mounted in your SUV like that!? Dude, thats NUTS!

you see, in the end, this is the sticky wicket in the whole "run for the hills with food and guns and prepare to kill your fellow Americans to defend your own food and water" idea.

Yes, there IS a definite legitimate reason to prepare yourself for some sort of localized natural disaster or emergency where you might need to have enough provisions to be self sufficient for a few days or a week before relief arrives (aka Katrina) but what I want to know is, what set of circumstances do you see as having no choice but to run to the hills with food and guns and prepare to defend yourselves from other of your fellow Americans for an indefinite amount of time??
really now, it cant be nuclear holocaust, nowadays that threat is either non-existent or otherwise non-survivable. Seriously, what sort of threat do you see out there that would be so extreme that you would not only have to prepare for your own short term survival but also plan some sort of long term "run for the hills, f*** everyone that gets in my way" plan for an indefinite amount of time existence??
What, meteor strike? unknown large scale nuclear attack? Zombie apocalypses? In any of these doomsday scenarios , I cant think of any reason where it would be a better idea to run away by myself into the hills and go all uni-bomber, than it would be to try to maintain some semblance of a society and unity and stay down in the trenches and unite with our neighbors and fellow Americans. And I kind of question the sanity and patriotism of those that feel any different.

but I guess thats just me. have fun in the hills on your own...

i'll say thing again...

in the san fran bay area, our disaster of choice is an earthquake.

the "good" news, well if there is one, about earthquakes is that either your house will survive or not.

take the 1989 loma prieta EQ. the marina in SF was smashed. houses collapsed. or on fire.

but how many of you slept in your own bed that night?

i did.

what i'm leading up to, is that if and when the big EQ does hit, there is a good chance you will not need to BUG OUT.

personally, i am planning on bugging IN.

something daniel didnt list on his checklist is, MONEY...

i dont remember how fast or when i hit the ATM after the 89 quake. but you know everyone tried. now consider that maybe the link between norcal and socal gets cut off, do you think banks or even ATM will be active?

second is communications. yeah i know... i know... we all have cell phones.

well guess what? when that quake hits, everyone you know will be clogging those cell towers, if they are still up!

last year or so, a quake hit the UCLA area. i received email later that nite (cause i volunteer as a pseudo first responder at work), that the UCLA people reported that 80% of the cell phones couldnt get through... took close to 2 hours after the mild quake hit, to get cell phones back to normal.

consider a HAM radio license. and gear.

you should have plans of communicating with a friend or family member
outside kalif, to act as a message center for you and your family. you can call this person reporting you are safe and if other family members has already checked in... and visa versa.

finally, while you have a first aid kit in your bug out kit, dont forget about prescription meds. again, dont assume your local rite-aid will be open to get your doctor to fax over a prescription for you.

you should have at least 2 weeks of RX meds at all times. just in case...

one more thing... dont forget about your pets. FOOD and water. and meds for them too.

and if you have kids, prepare to bring some kind of toys or games to keep them sane. or at least something they know to pass the time.

oh and in case if you are wondering, there is only one reason to bug out for me... ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!

You couldn't give me one! Major problems included...

1)Transmission and transfer case both had major problems. T-Case was far to thin, and under any kind of load/stress in a off camber situation, it could and often would snap.

2)Motor was a gas pig, sure it was fast, but when your looking to crawl, slow is the name of the game and if your burning up gas at 8mpg your hosed real quick.

3)Axles were a one off, you couldn't find replacement parts if you wanted to. Only one company made them and they were never used on any other truck/car.

Nope, give me somthing strong and sure.

that is a 416 unimog, sure it only goes 60mph, but with a diesel motor and the 200:1 crawl gears, sitting on 2 1/2 ton rockwell axles and portals with center pinion brakes, they are unstoppable.

Whos gonna be the one to photoshop Daniel in the back of a pickup hanging onto a minigun? im assuming youll have the static X hairdo lol.

and if it were that crazy, i would be inside, moto or 4x4. no way im going out in that. maybe make a 3/8" box with one side cut out so you can sit in it in a car or moto.

LMAO reminds me of Jerky Boys, Sol Rosenberg "I want you to weld a box for me to ********** in"

nothing beats a unimog i would think for the money if you can find one. I would love one of those.

and for some reason, i think i'd still rather have an H1 than that lambo

I've got all the outdoor survival stuff, guns, food and water.
Dirtbike and my back country bus. It is currently in its final stages of modding; solar panels, 12v fridges, aux. fuel tanks, water filtration, cabinetry, and many other amenities. It can run on diesel, bio-diesel, veggie oil, and even ATF. It has really good ground clearance. The water crossing was in death valley, the trail was high clearance only, and it did great.

So what's the "disaster" scenario again? Earthquake? Zombie invasion? The Apocalypse?

Edit: I would pick the USMC FAV (militarized Mercedes G-Wagon) as my vehicle of choice in any situation.

Dude, Kevin... Ever think about painting that thing flat olive drab? Or maybe camo?

Pretty sweet project you have there man! Any interior shots? I know when you do something you do it right so I have no doubts on your ability to make a short school bus into something bad ***!
