Because you run fiber for at&t? I think I know what I'm talking about...

I'd kinda like to avoid Comcast, but could get over that.

OH, BOUncer: Bullcrap sorry man, I work in the industry and the facts are...

1)the "top 20%" are NOT affecting all the other users. Sorry, even if you have everyone in that top percent maxing out their connections, there is plenty for the lower level users left over. (worked for a number of backbone providers for years including AT&T)

2)DSL is on its way out, another 10 years and you wont see one, just like you don't see ISDN now (other than ATM machines that are mandated to have them). Frame realy is the same thing, its old tech, its being phased out slowly. I figure by 2025-2030 we wont see DSL, ISDN, or Frame systems in the world.

3)This is all a way for AT&T and other "providers" to try and make MORE money on the backs of the people they provide "service" to. Some numb nuts up top said "hey lets pretend we have limited backbones and can't provide for top level service and all the little people all at once"

Don't bother arguing on this one dude, 12+ years working NOC departments, I know what goes on behind the sceens for both CSP's and BSP's.

You dont own your own modem? I ended up just buying my own, why should I pay $5 a month, when I can just drop $80 and own it. Just replaced mine with a bitsurfer(M) in place of the DCM-202(dlink) and that dlink ran me for 5 years.

Go comcast, unless you happen to live in an area that can get microwave high speed. Unfortunaly for me my house is blocked from the MHS system in oakland (stupid hills) or I would have that.

Damn dude, 150/50? I'm limited to 20/5 in my area... then again, I'm only paying $60 a month for 20/5, 2 static IPs, and no data cap... not that i ever use it all.

And doxis, do you mean DOCSIS or something I'm not familiar with?

I'm going to ignore the obvious grammar issues that i would normally harass you for so that I can say...

...this statement is 100% correct.

I fried two that I owned and said **** it, but I'm about to go back... apparently the firmware in my current modem (some SMC piece of ****) doesn't allow me to forward port22... and that's a no-go since I use ftp/afp/vnc over SSH and there's no way I'm turning on those services for a computer in my DMZ

Yea thats one thing I don't like about comcast, they lock even modems you own down, so you cant fiddle with the settings. I figure im already paying them BIG time cash, who cares if I run the modem to its max abilities.

its not just for me when im done im going to bring ti to the office, its good for fundamentals even though half the switches are so old they don't support ios 12.4 (and thus, no ipv6).

having a real hands on environment is much more useful (for most people) than just using GNS3 or something.

plus, doing ENT/NA before NP/DP/IP is the standard path folloowed by IE then DE and CCA

^^ Just make damned well sure you enjoy the work before you go too far down the path.. Just because something pays doesn't mean it isn't tedious, thankless, high pressure, and otherwise incredibly boring..
