is the crashed STi at the drive from BAIC?
yeah, it definately left me in shock for the day. I've never witnessed a crash like this, thanfully the tree stopped his car from going down even more though.
P.S. If anyone wants me to take those pictures off, let me know.

I'd say like everyone else is saying...1200 miles on the car...that means that if it was broken in correctly it only had 200 real miles on it. Not much time to get used to a car to a point where you can really push it....my opinion that's mistake number one. Going on a mass drive...in the rain...with a new car.
Second..the tires. Maybe the driver wasn't aware of how poor the RE070's do in the rain. I myself haven't had trouble with mine but I don't really push them that hard in the rain and I have 73000 miles behind the wheel of my car.
Third. It was raining. Not hard for a minor mistake like a lift then overcorrect to take you off the road.
Fourth. Maybe the guy was talking to his buddy and lost focus and just lost control.
Fifth. it was a group drive. Pretty much every single group drive I've been on has lost a car. Often noobs but not always. Not hard to get overconfident or get pushed to keep up with people or not hold back. Easy mistake to make...push to hard in just such a situation. I nearly stuffed my car going from about 130mph to 40mph on the first mt. hammy drive I went on.
sixth. **** happens.
give the guy a break. Lots of things can go wrong..and some did.
That sucks - I've had my 04 STi for 3 years (as soon as July rolls around it will be 3 years). I've driven a total of 25k miles on my RE070's and haven't broken traction in the rain (except for one time, when I purposely put my foot into it in 3rd during a corner). I will say this: with the RE070's feeling the way they do at 45 mph when you hit standing water should have been enough to make the driver understand that these tires aren't meant for wet roads. On dry, the RE070's are awesome, but in wet, I'd hessitate to go faster.

I am pretty sure something did go wrong, like he drove past his safety limit or something was beyond his control.
No one is arguing that
I have a problem when people wreck and try to blame something other then what really caused the accident.. driver error. Of course there are sometimes there is nothing you can do (like when I laid down my first bike on an onramp because I hit anti-freeze, not much you can do there since I was in shorts and not going to put a knee down to keep it up) but I would say 90% of the time its your own fault that caused it. There have been a few minor accidents in the SRIC when people have gone on drives, but it was people putting cars into snow banks and a few scraped bumpers and bent fenders, but not once have I heard people say anything about it was not their fault and how if they had different tires or different equipment they would have been fine.
Just because it was raining and he was on 070s was not what caused the accident. Possible it could have helped reach the end result, but the fault lies with the person that was pushing his vehicle past his ability.
