BTW, Paul, what would you do if your kid came home with a vid of some cop harrassing them like that? Seriously, just outta curiosity?

mmmm, I've heard from a few people that once someone "resists" arrest, you take them into custody by whatever means necessary. As far as choking that kid though, I don't think he could've done anything nearly harmful enough to that cop who was twice his size.
Bottom line is yes, I have absolutely no problem with cops. Hell, I thank them all day long for doing they're job, no ****, I walk up to them and talk to them in line at Panda Express or when they come into my store. However, there are some that abuse their power. I bet this ****er had just been in an argument with his wife about not getting the punani or something. He should be discharged from the force. I think it goes back to what he was saying in the video, "HE disrespected himself, HE disrespected his badge, and HE disrespected his department."

I've had people TRY to take mine away. Back in the day. It's pretty much illegal to skate anywhere but in the parks in Santa Cruz.
Man that guy went way over board. I hate when cops start pointing the finger. I can't handle it now but when I was a kid it was even worse. I would have just skated away from that fat idiot.
Seriously. What a damn fool. Did he not know he was being taped. Put your hands on a minor. Guy should be fired.

Here is an article to the second video that Henry posted.

The Onion (me) says:
Kids should get cited cited for illegally skateboarding. Rules are rules.
Kids are probably guilty for fleeing police officer. I have mixed feelings about this. As soon as he choked the kid, I personally believe that he is no longer a police officer. There are right ways to do things, and there are wrong ways. If you choose not to do it right, then don't become a police officer. If I were overseeing the trial. NOT GUILTY!!
Kids are not guilty for misdemeanor battery. What the kids did were self-defense. What the officer did was blatantly disregard the safety of the children. Not even disregard. I watched the video, and I believe that he had intent to harm the children. Under no circumstances are you allowed to use brute force to choke anyone. ANYONE!! This isn't a, oops, my arm is accidentally around your neck, but rather a kids is on his back with a 200+ lb man pushing down on his throat. NOT GUILTY!!
Disorderly conduct? This is a tough one. Once again, they weren't doing anything but skateboarding around the streets. I do not see how this obstructs the freedoms of other people. Some can argue that the kids made a lot of noise when the officer arrested them. My view on it is, if you are ever in danger, and in this situation, I believe they were, you have every right to make noise in order to ask for help. NOT GUILTY!!
As for officer, the bastard got away with it. Apparently the city saw his actions justifiable. How is this justifiable? You have a kid that is being choked by a police officer!! The kids broke the law, yes, but it in no ways justifies the right for a minor to be chocked. As for the other police officer, how could you let the guy go on with what he was doing? Wouldn't you be ashamed of the way he is conducting himself? Why would you want to work with a bastard like that? As his peer, you need to tell him that what he is doing is wrong and that it is unacceptable.
As for the officer, losing his job should be the least of his worries. I would like to see him be tried for what he did. It wasn't self defense. It wasn't doing hist job. What he did was a blatant attempt to harm a minor.

wow...that cop must have been havin one hell of a bad day. i've never seen a cop act like that anywhere. somebody had his boxers in a bunch...
serves him right..he had no reason to take the board anyway, its not like the kid was kickflippin infront of him or something. and how did he not realize the camera was there POINTING at HIM.

If you act in self-defense it's because you feel there is something endangering your life. I can't even imagine how the "officer" (I use that term loosely) felt his life was in danger. To put it shortly, it's a case of excessive force. The man was on a power trip. Was it caused by a bad day? Did not sleep well? It doesn't matter because there is no excuse for what he did. I'm with Onion, losing his job is the least of his worries.
It doesn't matter what those kids were doing, that "officer" was way out of line. If I were his partner I'd have called him on it right there. Not hearing me because you're too into it? I'll do you a favor and clue you in.

The f***ing bastard got away with it. See this link:

According to the article, the internal investigation and the city manager states that the officer was well within his rights. Bulls***!! The police department and the city should be ashamed of themselves. Kent Myers (city manager), if it were your kid, or your friend, or your family, I bet you would think differently.

As soon as he endangered someone, he's no longer a cop. I don't care what the PD says. I don't care what the city manager says. NO ONE, including cops, should be allowed to endanger the safety and well being of any individual. To serve and protect my a**.

making skate boarding illegal is stupid. Sorry.
With all these ANTI-CHILD laws and the continued cutting of after school budgets and athletic outlets WTF are kids suppose to do with their time and energy.Seriously.
No wonder kids are getting more violent.
If you don't want kids skating on your private property then post signs for trespassing. As for complete city outlaws... lame. I think every city that outlaws skating should HAVE to build skate parks.
