It wasn't like the kids were doing anything incredible horrible. They were just skateboarding in a place where they weren't suppose to be. Watching the video, none of the things that were said or done justified the kids being thrown to the ground. None.

I would have liked to have seen him gather of the kids. All he had to do was say, hey kids, please come here. Then explain to them that they aren't suppose to be skateboarding there and that it is part of his job to make sure that it doesn't happen. They seem like reasonable kids. I am sure if you talked to them in a respectful way, they'll get the message.

Why is this so difficult for people to understand? Oh ya, I forgot that you do not have basic human rights until you are 18

If it were me, and I had to tell it to the kids, I'd be like:

Hey guys, or boys, or whatever. Gather them up in a group and be like. I am sorry, but you guys aren't suppose to skate here. You can give them a number of reasons. You can say, if you guys get hurt here, your parents can possibly go after the city to sue them... or... hey, it's my job to make sure that the rules are enforced, or hey, rules are rules, or i dunno, make one up.

Heck, just the hey boys, I am sorry, but you aren't suppose to skate here, because it is a law and you can possibly be fined, should be enough. The guy didn't have to throw the kid to the ground.

And what does it matter if the kid was video taping the whole thing. When you are on the job as a public servant, you work for the taxpayers. What you do on the job is public.

I bet that cop is pissed he has to patrol the harbor in some silly little shorts and a ****ing golf cart. Some people take themselves way too seriously.

All he had to do was be professional about it. If he had to do anything to them, all he had to do was tell them that he has to cite them and that is that. Probably would still have his job. Sit them down, ask them for their name and their addy. Explain to them why they are being cited. Then call their parents and explain to them why their kids were cited.

What he did, didn't solve anything. You have to look at the big picture here. Tell them that they aren't allowed to skate there and that you have to cite them. Then tell them that they need to find a safer venue to skate at and that the harbor isn't the best of places to skate. Damnit, you have to point people in the right direction. I dunno. Does that make sense?
