Car broken into in SF
Car broken into in SF
My car was broken into last night in the Twin Peaks neighborhood in SF. Rear window was smashed, labtop stolen. Filed a police report and insurance claim.
When the window was smashed, some of the wiring for the rear defrost was severed. Any ideas on how to get this fixed?

That was my bad. My renter's insurance is taking care of that. In all fairness, it was in the cargo area in a black bag and my rear tint is 20%.
I'm more curious if the severed rear defrost wiring is something I can take to any auto glass repair shop or if I'm going to take it somewhere else.

Most of the time it's just the glass itself and it seems as that's the only part in which was damaged. I would believe your car will be fine as long as the connector is still intact. Take a look at where the connector would be for the rear defroster and you'll have your answer. Do you happen to have any pics?

As for the electrical stuff, take your ride over to Glass Plus on 145 So. Van Ness and talk to Jon, tell him Shane from Toyota Club (white 4Runner) referred you and see what they can do to get ya rolling again.
*Let me know if ya go w/ them and how it all turns out. PM if you don't wanna post it up in here.*

Wow good luck with everything man. I've always kept limo or darker on my windows for no visibility.
As for the wiring was it where the rear defog plugs in? if so and the place cant figure it out there should be a diagram of what colors to what, just reconnect them, unless it was totally ripped out..

sucks to hear
times are tough, in a perfect world you shouldn't have to hide your valuables, but today better safe than sorry
GL with the repairs
hope they catch those bastards and put their nuts in a vice
I'll pay to turn the handle

That's a bummer. For the wiring, it can be replaced, just depends on where it was damaged to know exactly what needs to be replaced. Let insurance deal with it though.
Thing is, with tint - it looks like there might be something to hide - the darker it is, the harder it is to confirm visually, so confirmation is made with a rock or a large metal striking object. Without tint, and clearly with nothing visible, IMHO you are much less likely to be broken into. Though, when I have lived in some worse areas I have had windows smashed when my doors were un-locked. You never know, really.
