Finally Happened - Car got broken into and stereo stolen

Came down from my apt. this morning to discover the door of my WRX partially ajar. Opened it to discover my bezel ripped out, stereo gone, wires cut. ARG! Thats really annoying. They even left the screwdriver they used IN THE CAR. And the police didn't care, didn't want to fingerprint it.

Was an Alpine CDA-9835 w/ ipod interface & my Forester DIN cover/the bracket that they took. Please be on the look out on Craiglist or something...thanks.

Strangely enough, they left:

A Sony Ericsson S710 phone w/ box and accessories (easily worth 300)
My GPS (easily removable, worht like 400)
My bluetooth car kit (worth like 150).
My sunglasses (worth about 150)
Various tools.

Some people just dont get it. They spent SO much time on the stereo, and very little on the easier, more valuable stuff.

Any recommendations for a replacement unit? We'll see what insurance gives me to replace the bezel and the stereo.

Sorry to hear that, Matt.

As for replacements, that Alpine deck is pretty nice! I'd probably be inclined to go back with something similar/same. Alternative would be a cheaper head unit without the high power in the deck but use an amp (4-channel will easily fit under the driver's seat) and aftermarket speakers.

That's ****ed up. I hate stupid thieves. That's a nice deck. Try to get the same one. The new alpines are

pretty disappointing due to the problems alot of people are experiencing (especially the 9855). Pioneer

has some good decks too. WTF is wrong w/ those cops?

that sux. what sux even more is how unhelpful the cops are. when my ride was broken in to, i called the police station(2.5 blocks away). they told me to call 911. 15 minutes later a cop came and told me there was really nothing to do other than contact my insurance company. biiiig thanks.

at least your car is relatively ok and still there

This is gonna **** you off, but I think it's another subaru ownder.

Bastards. I mean why else would he take the din pocket. Only car that needs it is the WRX.

person either drives one and wanted the deck for himself or knows about it and will be selling it on craigslist or a subaru board soon.

lame. Doesn't alpine have some kind of security feature? My 7897 does...I think.

Sorry to hear, Matt. Quoting Brucelee - "I hope their house get hit by a missile" with all their blood relative in it!

I have had too many cars broken into and stolen and it just irks me.

They took the DIN pocket because it was superglued to the radio bracket . Would have taken longer to leave it than just take the whole thing.

Damn that sucks to hear that. You think they've been eyeing your car for a while? Your street doesn't get too much foot traffic.

Alpine's QA has been slipping. There were many bad units (batches) sent out to distributors that failed prematurely, glide interface being qwirky, ipod playback and volume issues, etc. It seems like they're going down the drain which sucks because they used to make awesome decks. If you can find a 9835, just buy another one.
