buying a shot gun. tips
this thread makes me sick. People don't need guns. That's what the police is for. All you need is to call 911 and with seconds the police will be there to protect you and your family!!!
Remember the police work for you, the public.
All guns do is kill you or your family...

"seconds"? I've never seen police show up in seconds to ANY crime/911 call. Even if they get there in seconds, why do people not need guns?

thats not THAT east. But yeah, you have some gangs running around there, you need something.
goodthing, oakland has amped up their police force in the avenues from the lake all the way to san leandro.
JUST REMEMBER. DONT CALL 911 FROM A CELLPHONE. IT TRANSFERS YOU TO CHP NOT THE LOCAL PD.
ALways call from a house phone otherwise the response time will increase dramatically.

i been to the range a few times. but yes, i never shoot a shot gun yet. i would try that next time.
police don't show up as fast as i need them.
my friend who lives just few blocks away from me got their house broke in to almost twice with in 2 months. they just moved there also. i think having a gun for protection is just makes it little better.
i'm not sure about the process of buying a shot gun, but im sure when i buy the gun, they will tell me some available courses that i can take.

there are lots of police patroling that area.
but i still think it is always a good idea to own a shotgun.... UNLESS you have kids in the house. then you may want to think of another method to deter intruders.

If you need a training course to tell you how to use a shot gun,and need someone to tell you how to be responsible then you don't need a gun period.

yes, i agree. no one need to tell you how to be responsible with the gun.
Why would having kids deter you from having firearms inthe house?
Personally I grew up in a house where I didn't have access to one without my father's (he is a life member o f the NRA and CPRA) permission. But as kids we knew when to and not when to touch them. We grew up respecting them and not FEAR them.
As a responsible parent with firearms you should follow all rules and laws regarding them in your home.
All those horror stories you read of kids getting access to them and then shooting someone "accidentally" is just plain stupid.
Children should not be able to access them without your permission. But at the same time as a parent you should teach your kids to treat them with respect and teach them that these are not TOYS but serious tools...

i think your missing a major point, in case of a burglar, robber, life threatening situation...... your not going to have time to run to a safe, unlock the safe and get the firearm.
children do not know the term responsibility. when they are of age i completely agree that they shouold know right from wrong and when to and not to. but as CHILDREN..... your making a grave mistake.
you are 70% more likely to be killed by your own firearm by owning one in the house.
i personally own two firearms and one department issued firearm, my wife has access to them at anytime she wants. We have a newborn child who WILL NOT come anywhere near my firearms at anytime. i will take numerous security precautions to safeguard life by ensuring that my child will not have access to my firearms at anytime other than in an emergency / or range time.
Firearms should not be respected unless being handled by a qualified handler. Firearms should be feared because they are only a tool of destruction. No respect should be allocated for a firearm due to their destructive qualities.

Again, not to be an a**hole, but I think quite a few people would strongly disagree with this statement. Training, practice and understanding of the multitude of factors involved in shooting/handling/owning a weapon are a necessity, and if you ever have to use whatever weapon you purchase, you'll more than likley be very glad you learned something about your arm before you pulled the trigger.
Just as with anything else in the world, whether it be buying a car or purchasing a weapon, do your homework first, and you'll be better off.
