one word for ya NEVERSUMMER PRIMIER well i guess that is two words
... go read the reviews, some boards are nice but not as durable, look at the pros and cons. i picked this board b/c i like doing whatever... carving, occational jumping and eating it BIG... etc etc...
as for the bindings, for recommadation i would recommand strap-ins b/c it is more adjustable... yes it might be a pain to strap yourself in after getting off the lift, but it doesn't take that long, you don't even have to sit down to strap in. just bend down like you are gonna take it up the... urr... well you get the picture... i like tech-nine b/c it was designed by professional riders, and i think they know what works for them and what doesn't when they ride... they have many different designs as well so go check em out.

flows rip....if you are light or don't ride hard...if you are like me and bust 2 bills like it's balsa wood and ride hard and in deep snow.....flows are not what you want.... but for most people...I give them 2 huge thumbs up..great system...
never summer boards are good for deep snow...not my cup of tea though...slow on the response side and not much pop...gots to have my pops.
This year I will be riding my 159 burton cascade with burton c-14's for most days. My burton 166 republik with burton p1hd's for deep snow...I may buy myslef a 161 to replace the trusty cascade...that thing got worked last year...tree rides, rock gaps...even a dirt run at homewood to get to a gap I wanted to hit. I love that board...another board I jacked from Craig Kelly..used to be..what he road...I road.
oh....I buckle my burton p1's...on the move...like butta!!!!

oh and I didn't see my post...could just be retarded but I have...
a brand new never ridden in pair of Forum Devun Walsh boots. Size 11. Gray and blue. Great boots. I would say that if you were a 10.5 size shoe they would probably rip...depends on how wide your feets are.
I will hook anyone from the board up for like $75.
They are from last season I think....I bought burton's cause I like burtons better. The forums just sat in my closet.

), it's an excellent binding.
Best of both worlds (step-in and buckle). A little pricey though...

This is the 60. I got it last season but didn't get a chance to ride it due to the snow last year and the amout of times that I didn't go up
I first rode this board on a Heli-Boarding trip in Canada season before last. 1st time ridding the board and I decided to take it on the heli! I brought my Canyon 168 up to Canada as well just in case I didn't feel like ridding the Fish, which I was barrowing to demo from a local shop (MSPS) here is SAC and it was a 156cm. That's why I brought the 168. I was thinking a 156 in deep powder on runs I've never been on...maybe not a good idea.
All I can say is that it was the frickn' best board I've ever ridden in powder! The flotation of a 168 or larger and the maneuverability of a 156. It was ridicules
I'm dropping off cornices, ridding crud, ridding 3 foot deep powder, ridding steeps, slashing up everything in sight on a 156!!!! And I'm 6-foot and 225lbs!!!!!
As soon as I got home I put in my order for next years model where they were making a 160. I figured since I'm 225 a 160 woulnd't hurt.
Just try it and see what I mean. But it is just a powder board. So if you have others and are in the mood to add another board to your quiver it may be the one for you. The Burton squad proto-typed this thing in Alaska. Enough said!

I road the 156....great board...it was in junk slush so it was kinda slow to turn and what not but I could tell it would be a performer.....and why wouldn't it...craig was a major contributor to that board if I am not mistaken. But maybe that was the omen? Might be getting them confused.
I know I road the fish though cause it had that fish design on it...blue one.
It's weird how a well designed small board can rip like that. I have a 152 Nitro Seth. That little monster strait rips...I road it off and on since 99 or 98.....any snow conditions.....my little brother road it some last year....at 6'1" 185.....and he ripped on it...almost stole it...it's our back up board we have it up at the cabin along with everything else..haaa....love it.
Right now I ride primarily the 159 cascade. I am thinking of buying last years republik 166 cause I can get it for $250. Maybe I will run that and a 160 fish next year...bear has burton demo days during the year I will have to rock that board.
Dude...my primary reason for buying a subaru was because I missed so many damn days of riding last year because of my civic.....if you are down to ride...I like trees, back country mostly....pretty mellow..I am what most people call a soul rider...just love the snow and the mountains...go big sometimes...fast sometimes..mostly just cruise and find the tightest lines I can...I know bear valley like the back of my hand....you want to ride...you email me...We'll go. There and kirkwood...my buddy lives in ripon and we can stop at his house on the way home and hit the hot tub. He rips too.....he's better than me...he's 34...been riding since 89....I'm 26 been in int since 93 and my brother is 20 been in it since 94. We're all down...I got room for 4 in my wagon...4 boards on top and a place to stay in bear valley most weekends....just have to try to pick the weekends my folks aren't at the house...haaaa...gets too damn crowded when they are up there.

oh and lowball..you do any local trips.......utah, colorado....oregon...hit me up...even if you do a semi affordable run to canada...been wanting to do it for years but something always comes up.
My dream was to ride with Craig last year but my brother was broke and I canceled out and then the tragedy stuck. That hit me so hard man...he was the guy I always modeled my riding after....still do.....always will.
Really want to hit wistler, black comb and that new crazy steap and high mountain...kicking horse. Mammoth as well...never been.
Sadly I have only ridden in california. Beem thinking of doing a mammoth/june mammoth weekender.

Thanks to this thread I got off my lazy butt and bought a decent snowboard so I won't have to use rental equipment this season.
I picked up a used Sims FR750 158 for my 6'2 ~175 frame. Also 1 year old (but well used) Transnine bindings and thirtytwo 'lashed' boots for a bit over $200 for all of it.
First off, thanks, I probably would've ended up renting this year again if I didn't see this thread to remind me to look around for deals.
Also, now that I have my own board, I'll probably take several Fridays off this year and drive up to Bear valley or Kirkwood several times this year. I should be getting way more than my usual 1 or 2 days a year in.
So where do I take my board to get it fixed up (waxed, edges shaped, and whatever maintenance I should get done)?

Matt, I took my board to Mel Cotton's in San Jose. I had 2 really bad/deep cuts in my board. I took it to them and they repaired it and waxed it. I have also gone to REI. They do pretty nice work as well, I had them tune my board. File the edges, give a wax, things like that.

I wax/sharpen the board about every 3rd riding day.

It's not that they SUCK, it's that they arn't for everyone. They take some major adjustment to get them right (from what I've been told) and then once you have them set up it's all good. I know people who have them and they were all different types of ridders as far as size of the person. I would't use them for the stuff I do but for just normal cruzing arond and hitting a few jumps I'm sure there fine, comfy/cozy.
