Anyone here good/know a lot about snowboarding?
I'm tired of renting a dumb snowboard after 20+ runs. I waste money and those n00b board suck at turning. So yeah, anyone here can help me with buying one? I don't have that much money so I might have to buy used, but I don't want to get one that'll fall apart or something.
I heard carving and jumping uses 2 different shapes of boards? I want to do both, so what to do?
Thanks,
Ambert

You might check out a all mountain board. They tend to be more stable at speed for carving, but not too big for jumping. Small freestyle boards are not as stiff and are usually shorter in length.
There are tons of companys out there, I prefer K2. The Zeppelin by K2 might be a choice.

If you don't want to spend too much, then you might want to check out Tri-City. They always have good prices especially at the end of the season, sometimes up to 50% off from the MSRP... basically the longer the board is the better it carves and floats better on powder snow. The shorter it is, the easier you do all those jumps and tricks. If you want to do both, then you will need to get something not too long and not too short, but it means it's not good for carving or jumping. lol
I prefer a longer one tho. It's just me, but I hate stuck in deep powder.

unless your like 5' a 142 is really small.
go check out tri-city. you don't care about last year vs. this year stuff. don't get "beginner" stuff. get a nice last year board and be happy. DO NOT GET STEP IN BINDINGS. Never get your boots over the web. try the pair you are going to buy on to make sure they fit. boots are the most important thing.
brand for the board doesn't really matter as long as you stick with one of the major brands. for bindings check out how they strap and unstrap, I prefer Sims bindings. I used to think that Burtons were pretty good until I tried the sims.
for boots I recommend Norhtwave. Get the big spike Dakine stomp pad (I love it, have it on every board).
Once you get the equipment, do a search on the web and get some waxing instructions. I've got an old iron if you want to buy it off of me. Wax your board and resharpen your edges every few days.

Nows a good time to buy. Look for last years models, usually they are a lot cheaper and technology hasn't changed much that you're buying an inferior board. Only problem right now is selection in your size. Good luck.

I'm 5'9 . I think I got a 150-something ish last year.
hrm, why NO STEPPIN BINDINGS? are those the kind that click in?
ok, so you think craig's list would be a good place to find some? i would rather get used since I spent too much money modding my subaru lol...
um, I'd say I'm intermediate...I've gotten over the fear thing and I can switch directions really quick so I handle black diamonds all right, my instructor said that the rental board was really limiting my performance though...
so not too long not too short? um, lol what's a good size based on my height? I'd like to go off the snowpark jumps and learn some tricks, but also don't want to get stuck in powder (like I have)...
thanks,
ambert

yes, step ins are clickers, switch etc.
why not get them? it's really preference I guess. first, you will not get ice built up have a difficult time getting in. regular boots are softer than boots for step in bindings. but really, it comes down to control for me. with strap bindings I have more adjustments, two straps to give me point of contact. I've tried them all and I'll take a well designed strap binding anyday.
You will hear people say about the inconvience about straps that you have to sit down and strap in. this take about a minute max. and depending on the run, you can sometime have enough flat area to strap in while riding.
at 5'9" you'll probably be comfortable with a 155-160. but this depends on what you're gonna do.
as far as buying used, you can but 50-75% off new last year's stuff is about the same as used stuff. but you are sure that the board was not trashed.

I will second the no clickers comment,
I have tried them and hated them with a passion,
everyone I know has hated them etc.
If you can , get some good bindings with your purchase, last seasons Drake bindings are all really good, you want a nice thick ankle strap ( well I do at least, but I ckrank them down WAY TIGHT but I ride park alot ) and a good footbed . For me, I would spend a little more to get a nicer binding just because it will make a good difference as to your comfort / control etc on the board.
I keep forgetting that winter is around the corner, we should arrainge a day to go up as a group sometime this winter.

I will walk you through mounting the binding if you don't know how, but it's really easy.
