I've been with USAA non-stop. Even if there was a slightly less expensive alternative for me, (which for me there has not been) the service I have received whenever I filed a claim was first class. They never tried dicking me around or anything shady. That means a lot to me when I pay them every month.

A few years ago i would have been ok with being with a smaller company but, due to the current economical climate i would stick with the big companies, the one's that the gov seems to think are too big to fail. In our area natural disaster is an eventuality and you should consider those aspects as well. Just my two cents please dont kill me.

I recommend Safeco, I saved like almost 800 bucks a year by switching to them, and when you get renters insurance their discount is so high it almost makes the renters insurance free. I went to them off of recommendation of a lot of people here.
I have 2 vehicles, STI and a 4runner and I have 30/60/30 and I pay 140 a month which includes renters insurance.

Over $7k of stuff stolen out of my car (parked in front of my house). They covered $200 (and I have a $500 deductible) due to various "special exclusions and limits". And I had both renters and auto insurance. Paid premiums on both without fail for the last 10 years and this was my first claim.
F**k Safeco.

Safeco recently entirely f**cked me on my claim. I would NEVER go with them.

"Radar detectors are explicitly excluded from coverage."
"Any electronic equipment that plugs into the car is excluded."
And there are more....
Read the fine print.
Ask for a copy of all exceptions and exclusions and conditions.
