I was 11 and in the Village Market parking lot in Oakland. I had just finished door-to-door magazine sales and was waiting for my mom to pick me up. Consequently, she didn't feel the earthquake at all. Go figure. A bunch of car alarms went off in the parking lot. After it happened, I went into the store and all the stuff from the shelves was on the floor. Came home and watched the news for 2 days straight. Pretty gnarly.

Was outside riding my bicycle around the block. For some reason the first thing that I thought was that I had forgotten how to ride a bicycle and felt quite strange until I saw the trees and power cable posts shaking.

i was 5 years old and wasnt living in the bay, my family and i moved over to modesto but we felt it all the way over there cuz i remember being at the mall and the ground shaking. we just learned what procedures to take when an earthquake hit too.
we then moved back to fremont and i remember seeing a fat crack through the wall.

Awesome thread.
I was 8, living in Concord, and my story is a lot like everyone else's.. was riding my bike in the school playground, I thought I was dizzy, and I saw the grass and asphalt turn into a wave, i thought I was getting sick. I told my friend we should go home I didn't feel well.. he lived next to me, we were at his house and his family was saying there was an earthquake and the bridge had fallen down, and for whatever reason I didn't believe them. I went home and my family was outside with the radio, gas was turned off. Our fish had jumped out of it's 40 gallon tank (or was thrown out), there was a crack in the ceiling and a crack in my bedroom between the window and the corner of the house.
