1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake
I was at 5th grade camp at Camp Loma Mar in the santa cruz mountains.

A bunch of us were sitting down at some tables when it hit. The scary thing was that we weren't allowed to leave camp due to road closures, and telephone lines were down, so we had to stay at camp the rest of the week not knowing if our family was still alive.
One of the legs holding up my groups cabin had cracked, and all they did was put a nail in it.
I went back to there for 6th grade camp, and it was very weird. Same nail still in that cabin too.

I was 4 years old playing with my hot wheels in the living room when I noticed everything started to shake. I thought it was cool until my mom came from the Kitchen and grabbed me and took me outside to the back yard. Funny thing is that my older sister was in her room during the earthquake and she didn't run out because she thought the shaking and stuff was me messing with her.
It's QQ thankyouverymuch

I was about 4 years old and I was sitting in the back seat of my moms car while she was in the dry cleaner picking up some clothes. I felt the car start to shake and I stood up on my seat and looked out the back window and watched Bascom Ave. do the wave right in front of the Pruneyard. It was a sight to see. I may have been a little kid but I vividly remember seeing the road going up and down. My mom was inside and there was a huge bookshelf behind the counter that the clerk was standing in front of and when it started to shake my mom grabbed the man and yanked him over the counter right before the shelf came down right where he was. He would have been crushed otherwise.

I was 16, and a HS senior in Huntsville AL.
Obviously didn't experience it in person
, but do remember seeing all the news reports from the collapsed bridges/roads, World Series, and parts of SF on fire on the national news.
Bad 3 months for natural disasters : Hurricane Hugo in September (wiped out Charleston SC about like Katrina did to New Orleans, I went to Clemson Univ in SC starting in fall of 90), the quake in October, then Huntsville got hit by a BAD tornado on Nov 15th that killed something like 20-25 people. I was on the fringes of the tornado myself, half the windows in the car I was driving blew out while I was in the car
, and folks died within a couple hundred yards of where I was at.
In other words, Fall of 89 pretty much sucked!
