I had an idea last night when thinking about the Edgewood Eats meet that I started (and have not been to in 2 weeks)
What about making the tickets a little less and asking a couple of different food trucks to show up. Ask them how many people would need to eat to make it worth their while to come out. I would think that if there are two food trucks that if 150 ate at one and 150 the other, that would be enough sales to make it worth their while to come out. Just a thought. Also tri tip and ribs would have worked fine if the grilling had started two-three hours earlier.

We did that for our show. Had some old school truck/trailers come out. Ice cream. Burger/cafe
. Coffee. Was rad. Only draw back is if they don't make their quota the extra comes outta pocket. But for charity events they'll usually lower or drop the quota.
I've pitched this idea literally for years.

Next year, if we organize the meet, we were thinking of lowering the vendor fees and relying more on member ticket sales...
...but really don't feel like losing a bunch of money on people who don't care to pay their fair share.

I showed up late and I couldn't find anyone to give me my food ticket (no one was at the front desk) so I just walked around and didn't eat while I was there (even though I paid for two tickets)...I was barely even in the hangar because of the noise...dj must be deaf if he thought the sound levels were ok when there were people and vendors less than 15 feet away trying to eat and talk...but his douchebag friend has already responded to that one

Nice, but unfortunately without the food element, there are dishonest people like:
They don't realize that table/chair rental, DJ services, and other things come out of the ticket sales. While the vendors do the heavy (financial) lifting of putting on the event, we do try to distribute some of the costs on the members.

New location for next year...the staff there was stuck up and when I asked for my shirt and started giving my info, she says "nah I don't need it...here you go just take it and your friend...does he want one? Here take 3 of them" hmmm. Music was cool imo...but I was born in 78 so I grew up to breakdance and freestyle music lol I enjoyed it. Food was good I got 1 rib and 2 pieces of meat. I left early and funny thing as me and my cousin were leaving...the same lady says "hey there's extra shirts left here ya go" I told her nah we cool but thanks. Maybe somethin in Fremont (rosetti retired) or concord Mt. Diablo?
I thought the venue was great, the most central location you can get to the areas that can accomdate that many people. It's not a super family friendly environment for people who may want to bring their kids and play while waiting for food, but I would definitely give this location a thumbs up and would attend again next year if it's there again.

Well bringing in food trucks if they do not reach the quota ruins the point of this being a fundraiser for any charity while if we buy the food ourselves and pay for that being lets say a hot dog burger with given condiments the cost would be about maybe 1-2$ at the most for one person and costs of the location etc thus bringing in lets say minimal 5$ if we include other miscellaneous costs towards the cause. Where if we charged only for entry which people probably won't if foods not included yeah the net may be more but the attending number will drop. Personally I don't mind paying $15 to get in to get some food and hang out all day or even pay for the car show which people complained about. It's going to a good cause who cares...... I swear I've seen people send over 100+$ for something that was worth 50 or so in a silent auction.
Also as someone mentioned above this isn't all about the show food or anything like that its just actually bringing an entire community together once a year for fun. The weekly meets rarely yield more than 20 over in my area fremont being the biggest the gellert one which I pretty much hold now if I even get 5 people that's a feat..

I think the overall consensus is that the location was a central location for all. This is the first year that we've had a central location. All of the South Bay people who either complain, or suggest that we hold this in their back yard - how about you guys pay $50/ticket so all the people who are spending that on gas (alone) can come? It doesn't seem fair that everyone else needs to pay for your unwillingness to drive.
The location was based not only on being central to all, but on the weather - since feedback from previous meets has been critical of the heat...

The 2 years in your backyard I spent more than $50 in gas.
Sorry dude but that's kind of a ridiculous statement. I understand the frustration in people always *****ing about the location being far but that's just silly. My thought has always been... well, if you want to shut those people up then do it in alternating years. One year in South Bay, One year in the North Bay. Then no one can complain.
I think the location of the meet was just fine. But I've never had an issue with it. I like Hammy even though it's hot as hell up there. I like Navato because it was a park and family friendly... though far as hell for me. I'd rather see it in a more "central" park than out there... like Kelley Park in San Jo. And this years was just fine with me. Bought an hour and a half drive. Nice view. Open. Only beef was not kid/dog friendly, and the beer issue. LOL!
Seriously though... no location is gonna make everyone happy because there are too many people that don't understand why we do this.
I don't care where it is. Once a year I'd drive to friggin Oregon if it ment I got to drive with a bunch of my friends, toss back some beers and rustle the feathers of the hellsaflush faced folks!
Seeing folks I rarely see makes it all worth it.

It comes down to listening to those with a legitimate beef (pun intended). Distance to drive isn't one that I'll listen to - since those complaining don't realize that I spent the time to triangulate the distance from the major member hubs in order to come up with this location. San Jose, Santa Rosa and Sacramento - all of these are within 8 miles of being the same distance away from Alameda.
To anyone who complained about the distance to drive:
Show me a location that is:
1. Equal distance from each of the three cities listed above.
2. Contains grass and open space for the ~8 children who attended.
3. Doesn't have a temperature of 90+ degrees during the month of August.
4. Doesn't require investing over $5,000 to make it useable.
Let me know what you come up with.

Location was fine. If you don't want to drive your Subaru to a Subaru meet, then carpool. It's a CAR MEET for pete's sake. It's about DRIVING your CAR. This forum is centered around CAR enthusiasts. Why complain about driving too far if it's a once a year event?

+1 this is no different than Subiefest and to top it off, it's to enjoy a show w/ fellow forum members and help w/ a good fundraiser. 20 dollars for a ticket is hardly asking anything. Don't buy some fast food for a while and make food at home, don't buy your starbucks or whatever for the week, don't buy a few packs of cigs.
20 bucks isn't much at all. The meet was great, I think everything turned out excellent but the few small issues people had. Now lets start making plans for the next one
hahaha
