Question Adding a Turbo to Impreza 2.0R???

Hey all. I just bought a new Impreza 2.0R but the performance is somewhat disappointing for a 2.0 Boxer. Is it at all possible to fit a turbo to this engine and what are the risks etc involved. Thanks!!!

We don't get the 2.0 liter normally-aspirated engine in North America (U.S. and Canada). All Subaru 4-cylinder engines are 2.5 liters here because of the additional power loss from poor fuel quality (91 octane) and emissions equipment.

A turbo can be fitted to your engine but is not cost effective if you bought the car new because it will void your warranty should you have an engine or drivetrain-related failure caused by the increased engine output. I really don't know how compatible your 2.0 liter engine is with factory turbo hardware but entire exhaust system would need to be changed, as well as modifying the engine management (ECU) by some sort of re-mapping for additional fuel, ignition advance, and boost pressure. Fuel injectors, fuel pump, and probably other external engine parts would need to be changed. I also don't know if the compression ratio in your 2.0 is low enough for a high-boost turbo.

Probably not what you want to hear but you may be better off trading the car back to the dealer for a factory turbo Impreza like the WRX or the STi. You would take a monetary loss but it might still be cheaper than modifying the power of the standard 2.0.
