Adding OEM amp to 03 wrx sedan?
I bought my 03 wrx without any sound upgrades. No amp or sub woofer. Now that I'm thinking I want to put oem amp and possible a sub. I don't want to go aftermarket because I don't like to **** with the car while it's under warranty. So oem amp would be nice.. How easy is it to put it in? how much it cost?
thx

i wouldn't recommend buying the OEM setup. IT SUCKS...bad sound quality for the price. although it is in a clean Inconspicuous spot, it still sucks.
suggestion: if you still have the stock headunit and dont want to change it out for a aftermarket one. then just get an amp with speaker level inputs to run a aftermarket sub.
but if you stil insist on the OEM Setup. here is a link.

installation is a snap. just take your seat out and plug and play.
good luck.!!!

Well basically I want to keep my stock HU. I like the idea of 6 cd changer right in the dash. I also don't want to put in single dim unit and have ****ty plastic piece sticking out.
Yet I want to be able to play mp3s, heh.. Oh well.
Either way I want to put in an amp. What is the best/cheapest way to do so?
I don't like subaru's Subwoofer/Amplifier combination, looks kind of lame to me..
What about their upgraded speakers and tweaters? Are they any good? or should I stick with aftermarket?
Thanks

i bought the sub amp upgrade, and boy was it a waste of money. you can barely hear the difference. and all it does is add a little bit of bass, nothing you can really feel or anything. i say just buy an aftermarket sub and amp.
There is no OEM amp. The sub bridges off the rear speaker connections and has an internal amp for itself, but there isn't any external amp for the main HU. The only way to add one is by using a line-output converter because there are no preamp outputs on the stock unit.
If you add an amp this way the power output may be increased, but the poor response and dynamic range of the stock HU will remain. The best improvement in sound will be had by replacing the HU with a higher-quality aftermarket one, and adding amps to that. In either case if you are increasing power new speakers are a must.
Warranty should not be a problem with aftermarket audio equipment as long as you install it properly yourself or have it done by a professional. Use an adapter harness for the HU so nothing in the factory harness is cut or disturbed, and run independent power and ground connections for the amp(s).
