Rattle noise coming from rear of 2006 STI
I have had my 2006 STI for about 3 months now, and ever since day 1 there is this rattle noise sometimes coming from the rear of the car. At first I thought it was the exhaust tapping on the heatshield but the exhaust seems pretty secure. I just had the dealer look for anything that would cause the rattle and they didn't find anything. It only happens occasionally in first and reverse as I let out the clutch. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? The spare and the jack is screwed down pretty tight. Any ideas would be appreciate.
Thanks,
Zab

I'm not sure if you hear the same as I do on my 06, however, I do hear the child seat anchors rattle...

They said that there is nothing they can do unless they hear the noise. I plan on going to a different dealer from now on. I am pretty sure its nothing in the drivetrain .
I finally got a regional service manager from SOA when I had a strange "rattle" "clank" coming from the rear of my 02 WRX wagon. It took the rep and a tech taking the rear seat apart and putting it back together to cure the noise. I still don't what it was, but it is gone (over 3 month, now).

Thought I would give everyone an update. I narrowed the noise down to something in the trunk lid. Whenever it starts to make the noise, and I pop the trunk it's gone. I thought it was the safetly handle inside the trunk so I stuffed a sock under it to make sure it was secure. It seems that is not the problem. I now think it might be the third light in the wing. I am going to try and take out and see if I can do anything to make it fit a little tighter. Anyone have any ideas as to what else it might be in the trunk lid?
Thanks
Thanks
I have an 06 Sti and I just had the regional service rep check a rattle thats been on going for a month now and it's been to the service dept 4 times now. He climbed in my trunk and closed the door and he said it sounded like it was in the rear so he checked the exhaust.....come to find out it I had a cracked engine mount. The rattle just ran back to the rear. When the crack he said they order 2005 Sti engine mounts. They come in a pair so both are replaced. I also located another rattle that was pretty irritating and it was located in the car jack compartment. It's a little square box type thing thats down in the hole. Find it and tighten it down if possible. Hopefully that works. I'm driving a rental because my car was just impounded for that mount. Only had 5000 miles on the car. Pretty sad!
Have you ever checked your Lic. plate frame- you'd be suprised how many complaints we get related to "vibration near the trunk lid" and it ends up being the lic. plate frame- one quick fix for that--- add the mising screws to the bottom frame holes
